Bog-standard ethernet
get them in almost any length up to 50 Metres
Would think 5 M would suffice

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

She is at Nottingham Trent and not living in halls on campus she is at a place called Victoria Halls in the centre of Nottingham, not sure its the same as Nottingham University set up. In her room it looked like a telephone type socket so would an ethernet cable fit that?
Dont want her buying the wrong cable I think I may ring Victoria Halls up tomorrow and ask what type of cable it is as there is nothing on their website.
Thanks for all the responses.0 -

Still in mum mode, hard to get out of the habit!
Sorry, could have phrased it better, came across harsher than intended.
I do know most unis halls just require easily available ethernet cable.
Get one from an trade distributor on a trading estate, will be much cheaper than from an high street type store.
eg Screwfix
Nottingham Branch
One of these
I've a couple of friends at our local uni, involved in the management of the halls.
Freshers are back this weekend, they'll have their Jack Wills hoodies, phones and laptops.
But many will struggle to make a cup of tea or manage their finances, and as to regards basic tidying of rooms or even working out how to use a washing machine.....
And the females can be even worse.
Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I have checked with the Halls and it is just a standard ethernet cable so have texted DD to advise what she needs and where to get easily (not cheapest but don't think she will go more than 5-10 mins walk away!)
I have decided she needs to learn to get stuff herself now if she wants to be treated grown-up then she needs to start being more independent now (how long I will manage to stick to this don't know).
Thanks for all the advice and links.0
