I just tried them again on my extensions on the lowest setting which has once again broken the hair.. very bad burning smell to. my room smells of it..
If they are faulty they need to replace or refund you, if they refuse take them to trading standards as they clearly arent safe however from the post I have quoted you say you used them on extensions????
I have human hair extentions and even the packet on them they tell you not to use heat above 70 degrees to style them and if they are acrylic ones you certainly shouldnt use heat to style them0 -
It sounds as though the thermostat isn't working. I presume being a heater it will have a thermostat.
Many many moons ago when I was at hairdressing college, we used to train with marcel waving irons (tongs) that weren't electrical, we had to heat them up in little ovens and gauge how hot they were by putting them close to our lips, the theory was that if you put a hot drink near your lips and it feels too hot, you will not driink it. Well as you can imagine, lot's of accidents, hair being burnt off at the roots (just as you describe), also burnt lips and fingers. So I would guess they are not cutting out at the correct temperature, hence they are far too hot to use on hair.
On another note, I have had irons that have not cut out at the correct temperature, result shrivelled or burnt clothes.
