Broken Iphone on Orange

Hey,

I was wondering if anyone could help, i recently went with an Orange contract of around £40 to £50 a month for an iphone 3g. I didnt take out the orange care cover and now my iphone has a cracked screen and doesnt appear to be working. I only got the iphone less than 6 months ago, and i find the wear and tear of the phone very poor! I am now still paying this contract, and i have no iphone to take advantage of the £40 special iphone package. Orange say there is nothing they can do as it was accidental and nothing to do with them.

Is there any possible way of getting a new iphone when i dont have to pay the £300 that orange are offering??

Many thanks

Jess

Your home insurance may cover it, so its worth checking.
Generally speaking you would be responsible for any damage to the handset, unless you can prove that it was due to a manufacturing defect or design flaw. I think its unlikely you would be able to do that.
Another option, would be to sell the handset. People often require spare parts and you would get enough to buy a reasonable phone.
Also, you could take the handset to an Apple store and ask about the cost of repair. This is likely to be a lot less than the replacement cost.
  • claim on house insurance i did it for a tocco the missus used to have a tin of beans fell out of cupboard and on to screen.
ins company put me on to homeserve contents services who took imei number and £60 ins excess got new phone delivered 2 days later.
  • Cheers Guys, Very annoying that Orange wont do anything on such an expensive phone. My friend has a contract with vodafone, and under warranty the phone is covered for everything nearly apart from water damage and minor things. Im looking into bank insurance and see if that might work as i think my house insurance excess is quite a bit. :S x

the thing is it is damage is not a warranty issue, plus any defects on iphones are not the problem of network apple deal with all of that.

i found this out couple of weeks back when the wifes 3g on orange was having hissy fit running ios4,you basically have 2 contracts 1 for airtime the other is for handset with apple.

i seriously doubt any company will replace it for being damaged on warranty your mates is probably an insurance policy if it covers damage.

you are spot on with that. Vodafone definately do not cover iphones for cracked screens. Your mate is either mistaken or has some sort of insurance policy, but if he took a cracked iphone into a Vodafone shop with a cracked screen they certainly wouldn't help unless he had their insurance.
