You don't buy one you pay an electrician to install one.

  • You spur off your mains with one of these, the 32 amp mcb in the consumer unit will protect it ..
but you're probably better off putting in a dedicated circuit with a new mcb in the consumer unit.

    socket

Then you need one of these on your cable to the machine

how serious is the op about welding?? not sure i would trust a 35quid welder for anything!
being cheap doesn't mean it's value for money, especially with tools

I've used arc welders plugged into a 13A socket. They do work. If you turn up the power too much the fuse blows... so don't!

My Clarke MIG welder from Machine Mart plugs into a standard BS1363 13A 3 pin mains socket - many do.
  • My ARC welder plugs straight into a 13a mains socket and works fine. Only time i had problems was when i used a cheapie extention lead which kept tripping with the power the welder draws.

Do you have a cooker socket in the house? maybe worth using that if you have problems with a 13a socket.

With regards to the price, you really cant go very far wrong with an arc welder. Mine cost me 6quid from an auction and works a treat. Ive used it for no end of jobs, including building and welding massive security gates up from scratch.

Had it been a mig welder for 35quid then id be very worried!

Does it come with the wires and masks? If so, those alone very often cost more than 35quid!!!
