ISE AW23 washing machine Vs. panasonic +6 year free guarantee. which one!?

Options
Hi there! i'm after some advice!!! i am soon to move into a new house but have to buy a washing machine and fridge freezer. I have done a lot of research on the washing machine and have come to the conclusion that the ISE aw23 is quite a good choice for my financial situation..however, i have found on the internet that i can get this for £460 which includes a 2 year warranty. now my question is: -
do i buy the ISE AW23 with 2 years warranty, or do i buy another washing machine that's caught my eye which is the panasonic NA-148VA2-WGB, which would cost me £479. this comes with 6 years guarantee (incl. parts and labour)....
any advice would be much appreciated!!!

I haven't heard of ISE as a make. We have had lots of Panasonic stuff and it has all been top notch, so their rep plus the 6 year warranty would make me go for them, out of those two.

John Lewis' own brand washers are made by AEG I believe and come with a 3 year warranty (not sure of terms), they do Siemens from around £450 with a 5 year warranty. We have a Siemens and it has been excellent.
  • thank you trumpton. i may look at john lewis a bit more then so that i get the best washing machine for the longest guarantee possible. the panasonic i like is from john lewis. :) thanks again.
  • John Lewis machines are made by AEG but AEGs are not the German quality machines they used to be.

We bought an ISE and have been very happy with its performance and design philosophy.

I bought one of these November 2009. Used carefully no more than 5 times a week...last week the weight on the front of the drum sheared off damaging a hose as it fell, flooded room. ISE dont have parts in stock and they dont know when they will arrive from overseas.... under guarantee, parts and labour. You can do much better for over £400 in terms of relaibility and in particular service!
  • We bought an ISE AW23 a couple of years ago ands its been by far the most unreliable washing machine we've ever owned! Has broken down at least 4 times in less than 2 years! Will certainly not be using our local supplier again and definitely not going anywhere near ISE in the future!

I bought a panasonic washing machine 2 years ago (came with a 5 year warranty then) its brilliant - quiet, huge drum, big door so you can actually get everything in - does numerous different washes including a 15 minute one. I love it and would definitely buy another when the time comes. We have a lot of Panasonic items and I like their reliability. (the warranty is a bonus!).
  • The only downside with panasonic is if it does breakdown then independant repair people cant read the fault codes and panasonic can take ages to get parts etc in if they do the repair due to being a new brand.

One of the biggest reasons that the AW23 was discontinued was that people bought them thinking that they were a cut down (read: cheap) version of the ISE10 range, which they were not.

Despite telling people that they were made in different factories, in different countries, the illusion that it was a top end washing machine at half the price pervaded.

Many people thought they were buying a cheap version of the 10 year warranty range and the durability that came with it which is simply not possible.

They're okay machines but only rated as was stated for about 2-2500 cycles MTTF, which was stated. In other words, unsuitable for heavy use beyond the national average, which is about 250-280 cycles per year. Any more than that and it will struggle.

All manufacturers determine use and longevity based on that average, whether you agree or not, it is a factual.

But I see the service histories and reports for ISE and several other brands, or can if I want, and there's an amazing pattern where the same machines or people crop up over and over. Now, you can assume that it's the machine or you can assume it's the people, entirely your call. But, the surprising thing is that it's the same ones, over and over and many of the faults just scream "use".

What's really interesting is where you see the same people cropping up with different brands, that is most interesting.

Panasonic machines, fault codes are available and will be published in due course. I know, because I'll publish them once I rewrite them so as not to breach copyright. I've probably annoyed a few people with this section of UKW.

    Spares, nightmare.

As to reliability, well, just Google it and dig a little.
