That is not basic connectivity checks. Pinging the router is the first thing to do, then try and access its setup web pages. If that does not work, then try wired. The OP stated:
So I want to look at the state of play. Looking for conflicts and possible diverts.I've tried flushing my DNS, disabling my firewall, uninstalling my anti-virus with no joy
Once you have a ping going, you may well have cured a problem that all of this other stuff would never find in a million years. And to start with ping by IP address.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Hi Donnie - sorry I should have mentioned that I tried a system restore and that seems to have made no difference. i also tried setting up a new profile in Firefox to see if that helped but no joy.
DVardysShadow- I'm not quite sure I understand the ping by IP address stuff. Could you talk me through it?0 -

Neither I nor the OP will have a problem with you stepping in if you can see a clear solution to the problem. I don't have the problem, so you should be instructing the OP.
The fact that the OP does have some connectivity i.e. Skype, led me to look elsewhere.
But please, step in in you think that I have missed something obvious.0 -

Pinging the router is following the instruction that I gave you before, but this time using ping 192.168.*.*(the last figures depend on the model of your router).
Pinging by I.P address is; instead of using the 'name' of a website, you use the Internet Protocol address of the website. Google's IP is 173.194.36.104. So you would enter; ping 173.194.36.104
It looked like a firewall problem to me, but let us allow DVardysShadow to go through with the 'basic connectivity checks' and then go from there.0 -
Get your router manual out and find its LAN side IP address. Then at the command prompt enter ping <lanside IP address>' obviously substituting the IP address you found. You should get something appear like this:
64 bytes from 213.129.82.45: icmp_seq=1 ttl=52 time=45.1 ms
64 bytes from 213.129.82.45: icmp_seq=2 ttl=52 time=34.5 ms
64 bytes from 213.129.82.45: icmp_seq=3 ttl=52 time=30.8 ms
Try also from another machine which you know to be working to see what to expected for a positive result.
If that does not work, but it does work from the other machine, then you have a basic networking problem. If it works from neither but the other machine can browse the internet, then you have the wrong IP address.
Assuming you have a success on this, try the wider internet with 'ping 213.129.82.45' - the MSE server. If that does not work, you have a routing problem. Compare with the other machine of course.
Assuming you again have a success, then try 'ping https://www.moneysavingexpert.com'. If that does not work you have a DNS problem.
Assuming that works, try browsing to 213.129.82.45 with FF or IE. If that works try browsing to https://www.moneysavingexpert.com. If either of these fail, you may have a firewall problem.
Report back on where it first fails.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
