MOT Question
Hi all, hope you are well.
My car was serviced in June and had no major issues. This was with a dealer who offered me a 2-year free MOT and service plan when I bought the car. It was just the service required as the MOT had another 5 months to go.
For some unknown reason, they did an MOT as well and it failed. But, of course, as I had an MOT until November anyway, there was nothing they could do and they'd effectively completed a wasted MOT...Now I seem to remember they mentioned it about the exhaust and maybe a speedbump...but I can't remember exactly what it failed on. When I've called just now (as I'm in that process now of trying to sort it possibly before the MOT), the girl said they wouldn't be able to tell me why it failed again.
So I'm a bit stuck as I was hoping to be sure of what it was to try to get fixed...they're due to give me another free MOT in November, so do I just leave it until then and get the MOT done, or do I remind them that it has a problem that apparently meant it was failed in June before they do the free MOT? I'm not sure how it works.
Thanks in advance. :money:

Have a try on the online MOT history checker, it might tell you why it was failed.

Either that, or they've done an "MOT Inspection" (ie. not "logged on") found a reason to reject, then used that up as one of your "tests." This is naughty, it will be interesting to find if their test was "recorded."
Copy and paste the test history from the VOSA website, and we should be able to advise further.

Hi there, just logged on and it contains all details of my last MOT in 2009.
Underneath it says:
There are later tests for this vehicle that are either test failures or abandoned tests.
Further details are available via the History Check.
No other information.
Thanks for your help!0 -
As far as I'm aware they would be unable to "officially" MOT your car 5 months prior to expiry... the system doesn't allow it! As soon as the car details were entered the computer would say no!
1 month before expiry is the maximum & I fear they are pulling a fast one.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
? You can MOT a car every day of the year if you feel so inclined, if you have the money to waste and VOSA have no way of preventing you.0

Ok fair enough just going off what my MOT guy said when I took mine in too early... my misunderstandingAlways try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -
If they actully did a real test then there will be a failure sheet they should have given to you and you can see it online. You can argue that it was done way too early and you should get another one at the normal time
If they didn't actually do a real test then I'd put it down as an inspection done as a normal part of the service and you'll get the MOT done when required.0 -

If you check the history, it will have the details on it.0 -
