A lot of people have a misguided belief that the RSPCA have the same sort of legal powers as the Police. The truth of the matter is, they have no more power to prosecute than an ordinary citizen.

I didn't realise pet shops like still existed. Yeah there plenty of unwanted kittens/cats in your local rescue centre why would you look in pet shop for one. It would immediately ring alarm bells with me any pet shop that still sell cats and dog and other large mammals.

To the poster who congested that its ok because they wont be there for long your chatting out you back side quite frankly.

Its unaccaptle that young dog or cat would be left uncared for a long period of time they need lots of attention at that age. Dogs a lot more so than cats.

Its OK for a hamster and other small mammals to left in cage for a few days without human attention as long as their cleared out becuase they dont really as much stimulus. If you buy a cat or dog from condition such as that all you'll be left with is problem animal. Vote with your feet and go else where.
  • Nah they can go for much higher - we got ours from a good breeder and paid 50 each for them.. 2 brothers so couldnt take one and not the other ;)

Average mog goes for about £85 in London. More if it's a bit of a looker. (Gingers particularly). Proper breeders charge even more: my youngest is either a poor quality Maine Coon or an accident when Thomas O'Malley got into Princess MC's enclosure. The original purchaser paid about £350 for her, and this is cheap in comparison to the average mutt puppy advertised, which is about £650 - £875. I got her for nowt plus a bunch of toys and food thrown in for free (I still think I was robbed, sometimes :))

Ridiculous. Why on earth would I pay good money for one of the things when people just seem to give them to me?
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Sometimes you can find kittens in bins, usually dumped there by rotten old women with mental issues later seen on TV....

Hope something is done about the conditions at that shop.
    Owed out = lots.

One of the worst examples of petcare I've come across is the aquarium section in Seapets in Colchester, with Pets@home in close 2nd.

I was in my local Pets@Home last weekend and had to tell them to remove an aquarium net from the bottom of one of the tanks. Staff member looked at me like I was stupid until I pointed out there were fish trapped in it:mad:.

there is a pet shop in surrey ( might even be the one the OP posted about as no location is mentioned) that also has awful conditions plus an awful reputation. People often protest outside to stop people using the shop. Has also been in the papers too. But to all accounts it is operating within the law and so the council can't/won't do anything!!

Yes you can legally keep Meercats as pets but personally I don't think you should be allowed to. The best Place for a Meercat is in the African Desert doing what they do naturally.

I've heard that Meercats are extremely social animals, and owners usually can't provide the constant interaction that they need. Meaning that pet meerkats frequently develop mental problems.
