i cant see a problem here? your already with orange, and are going to continue with orange - all be it with a different contract provider.

it should be easy to do - orange to orange. no need to go to payg first imo.

i was in a similar position last year, i was with o2 through carphone warehouse, but i went to o2 sim only - direct from o2 off the internet. they just sent me a temporary sim out, then when i received it i just had to ring o2 simplicity and they ported it that day - within about 4 hrs it was done.

You tend to not be allowed to keep or port your number on the same network, but some networks will let you keep your number if you upgrade with them.

If you use a 3rd party picking another SIM and porting in and out is the easiest way at times!

Its called a 'back door upgrade' and as a rule they won't move your number if you do it.

how long ago since you managed it? and which dealer did you use ?
  • i was told by orange if i wasnt upgrading and getting another contract i wouldnt be abler to just use my same number

You went from a O2 deal via Carphone Warehouse to a sim-only deal through O2 themselves- that is probably fine in there eyes.

I suspect had you say gone to Mobiles.co.uk et al and bought a new phone and deal on O2 there, they wouldn't let you transfer your number it would be a PAC to say ASDA mobile then back in to O2.

yes i went from carphone warehouse on o2 when my contract expired, to o2 simplicity sim only direct through the website. i did it last june 2009.
i am now looking to go to vodafone iphone sim only and have just requested my pac from o2 to move to vodafone.

p.s, a friend of mine did this also approx 3 months ago, went from contract with o2 through phones 4 u, then went direct to o2 for simplicity sim only.

O2 are known to far more easy going on this than the other networks.

The Op's on Orange, I know for a fact they won't let you do this.
  • no they wont i did ask werent very helpful either

seems it can be done if they wanted to though if o2 can do it
