Do I need a food processor as well as a Kenwood Chef?

Thistle, do you have the cream maker?

If so, how does it work?

You heat some unsalted butter with milk - I have the exact recipe if you need it - then you pour it in the cream maker and out comes the cream. Kind of the opposite of making butter! I don't use mine all that often but it does come in handy esp. when you have unexpected guests for tea. I keep a block of unsalted butter in the freezer and just chop off what I need. Actually you can use normal butter, but then you heat it first with water to remove the salt.

The colander can be used to make puree, like a mouli, or to de-seed things like home-made tomato soup or bramble jam. There is a smooth and a rough side to the screens depending on what you want to do. It's fab.

Congrats on the potato peeler! Do you have a manual? If not, try to get one -they are really helpful and have some great recipes!

    ;)

  • I was just thinking 'what a mess she's making with that flour' when I smelled the smoke! EEEKKKKKK!! Then flames from the vent at the back.

Thanks for the warning - I have never heard of this happening before! I would have burned my hands too!

  • How many attachments are there for the A701/701a?

I am now a woman on a mission, to obtain as many life changing Kenwood gadgets as possible:rolleyes:

If you look on the site npsmama posted here there is a list of the attachments. I tried to copy and paste it for you but it wouldn't let me. The list isn't complete though - it doesn't list the can opener, citrus juicer, coffee grinder, pasta maker or the pea huller! I think the ice-cream maker may possibly fit the A701 as well, though I haven't tried personally as my ice-cream maker is for the Major... because I need to eat large amounts of ice-cream. ;)

Did you get the high speed slicer and shredder or the slow speed one? I find I use the slow speed one for most things - it's fab and so easy to clean!

So does making cream with the cream maker work out cheaper than shopbought cream? (not counting the price of the attachment which I have already)

I have no idea - I never worked it out! It is more of a convienence thing for me - I still will buy cream at the shop if I know I need a bunch, but for a little bit I just use the cream maker.

I got the slow speed one.

Thanks for the link, off now to check it out!
  • I recently bought an a701a with pale blue trims that wasn't working properly for
£7! It included a mincer, k beater and whisk but no bowl or dough hook. I
thought it was worth buying to see how much it'd cost to be fixed. Anyhow, turns
out it needs something doing to the gearbox which will cost £45 and I still need
to buy a bowl which I assume I will get on eBay for around £10 so I will have
spent £62. I am concerned that the capacitors and resistor and brushes may need
replacing in the future which will cost more money. But I LOVE the look and
colour of it!!! I was looking around on eBay and got giddy and bought an a901e
which has had the caps and resistors replaced and I have read that these are
better in that they can take new attachments and are semi electronic. So now I
don't know whether to get the a701a repaired as I love the way it looks so much
or sell it unfixed for spares :(. Any opinions would be greatly welcomed!!!!
