BT Evening and Weekend Plan

I dislike these sorts of plans. I don't object to an initial tie in period but when they keep renewing it I tend to get suspicious - is it really in my interest? We rarely use our home phone - always have so many minutes free available on mobile now but obviously I still need to have a landline for broadband (which is with Orange and probably needs looking at also).
Is there an easy way to find out the best option for me? I'm pretty sure better deals have come up since I originally signed up for this deal and they are relying on apathy on my part.
From October BT can only charge you £2.50 per unexpired month to end an Evening & Weekend contract. So maximum charge will be £30.0 -
Thanks for the thread, I can start another or if possible can I ask an additional question?
I'm trying to help someone save money, they were 'persuaded' to go on the "Unlimited Evening and Weekend" plan, and TBH don't make much use of it.
Their first contract year finishes 3rd Nov this year, so will have to watch for the letter about renewing.
About 4years ago I followed Heinz's advice and moved to Primus Saver option 2 (?) and 18185, is this still relevant/good ?
I think, but willing to take advice, that this is her best option.
So is it correct that if she reverts to the basic, Unlimited Weekend plan, she will be immediately free to go to Primus/18185.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Update- managed to read up Heinzs latest offerings, thanks to the links in his sig.

It now looks like keeping things as they are is probably the best option, especially if Primus Saver Option 2 is no longer available.
But still sign up to 18185.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I object to BT seeking to put me on a 12-month contract for a telephone line in principle. I have just moved but it is not certain how long I will be here. I am concerned that I might move to a place where I will not be the consumer. I thought one of the benefits of going with BT was that they are flexible with their monthly or quarterly bills. They want the certainty of being able to charge the customer for a year, but they do not appreceiate the customer's aversion to the risk of paying for no service. I have not asked BT to provide a line and I am considering a mobile contract to replace my PAYG arrangement. As for the internet, I'll rely on my dongle!0

There's no need to use BT. The Post Office and IDNET offer month to month contracts.0 -
By agreeing to renewal (i.e. by doing nothing), you'll continue to get weekday evening calls of up to 60 minutes each to 01, 02, 03, 0845 and 0870 numbers f.o.c. in addition to the weekend calls to those numbers you'd get anyway.
Agreeing to the auto-renewal for another 12 months saves you having to pay for the plan (it's normally £2.99/month) so you're saving under £36 a year.
However, if you don't need the plan (because you don't make that many weekday evening calls), what's the point of renewing (or not renewing and paying £2.99/month for it instead)?
You need to take action NOW if you're going to reduce to the base backage - the Unlimited Weekend Plan. That requires no contractural agreement.
To make that decision, you really need to do a detailed analysis of the calls you have made in those evening periods over the past year.
Is that still valid ?
I am on the auto renewing contract , I've just checked and it was due to renew in September although I didn't get any letter saying this, all I've had was an email saying my line rental would be going up by 50 pence.
I've just looked at my latest bill and it doesn't show the £2.99 discount and my monthly line rental charges are £15.78 per month.0
