iphone4 - OMG problems again!

Hello

today I had an iphone 4 delivered to me. It was from mobiles web (part of carphone warehouse) and on o2 for 2 years - new contract taken out!

Unwrapped carefully, followed instructions, installed sim, activated via itunes.....hey presto all good...made a call, had a little play

about an hour ago I decided to put a cd on to itunes and then sync to phone so I have some music for tomorrow,

NOW I Have white screen with strange coloured lines going vertically up it. If I phone it vibrates but the screen is dead. tried turning on and off nothing

OK - SO assume I have been sent a dud. Who do I deal with - carphone warehouse store (less than 2 miles away), O2 contract with...or this mobiles web mob who dont seem to have a phone number

AAAAAAAAAAAH!

I dont want to be waiting whilst its investigated / repaired...I just want a replacement

any tips on do's and donts appreciated :)

Would normally be point of sale you take it to, probably CPW if the companies owned by them

Take the battery out for 10 seconds, woops you can't it's an iphone!
Anyways in the handbook, there is a proceedure to reset the unit (just had an ipod touch 4g the other day) , I would reset the phone and see if that restores things .
  • thanks DUTR tried that

re point of sale, that was website. I am going to drive to carphone warehouse tomorrow am, I just have a voice in my head, saying I wont be driving away with a replacement, and they will want to send away for investigation

aaaaaaah, i am on a roll of bad things happening...guess I will drive extra careful on way there!

try holding the home button and power button until the screen goes blank, then release and try and power on again. Might sort it.

if that doesnt work, you could do a software restore in iTunes, connect the phone to your PC with the USB and then put the phone into DFU mode by holding the power and home buttons for 10secs then release the power button but keep the home button pressed until a message pops up in iTunes asking if you want to restore.

Is there not an Apple shop near you?
The lines you describe are similar to when the unit is syncing, the screen did show "ok to disconnect the device" ?

I Phone 4 doesn't say that at allk

When sycyinc you get the slider to cancel the sync otherwise it goes into batter charge mode. never says OK to disocnnect or do not disconnect like iPods do.
  • The best place to go for a replacement is Apple. If there is no Apple Store near you, you can telephone 0844 209 0611 (saynoto0870 gives the alternative number of 020 8218 1000 and you have to ask for Customer Services and say that 0844 and 0870 numbers are blocked from your phone).

Apple will run you through some tests to see what is wrong with the phone (make sure you are next to a computer that has iTunes so you can try whatever they tell you) and if they agree that it's had it, they will post a new one out to you. They will also send you an envelope to return the damaged phone in. One thing they also do is take a credit card number so that if you don't send the damaged phone back they can charge you for the new one (which seems sensible).

By far, the quickest solution is to go in to an Apple Store, but this is the 2nd best alternative.

great news, did apple tell you to take it back then and swap it? thats pretty good.
  • yeah apple gave a reference number, which the carphone folk saw on their computer

    process was smooth, no quibbles

Apple - tick in the box
    Carphone tick in the box

    Thanks
