Any Glaziers In?

I need two double glazing units replacing (not the frames, just the glass). One is because of cracked glass (on the outer pane). The other is because there is condensation between the panes.

I have been quoted £277 for both replacing.

First unit is 48" x 20" and second is 45" x 18".

Does this sound fair?

Nope! pay no more than £80 a unit, including installation.

I'm assuming the glass is not toughened?
  • It seems too much, but internal or external glazing will affect fitting costs

    would agree with that ..

the 4 foot one would be about £35 to buy on its own..so two and fitting ..would probably £80 upwards.

if they are in wooden windows .there is lot more work involved ..so expect to pay more.

also you want to ask what make the units are ..if they are these super doop gas filled low-e pilkinton k-glass ones ..then the price may be at your quote.

    all the best.markj

yes, some come out from the inside
..and some come out from the outside..ladder work

all wooden framed ones (i think) come out from the outside .

  • Can I hijack this thread, please?

I have had two quotes, both for around 188 pounds for replacement sealed unit in existing UPVC frame, 1635mm x 875mm 4/12/4 toughened glass in ground floor window.

    Is this too high?
    Thanks for your help.

    Supply and install.

Thank's for your replies. To answer your questions, i'm not sure if the glass is toughened, but I don't thnk so. Also, I got the quote over the telephone and they never asked if the frames were wood (which they are) so i'm assuming that that price may go up! Someone is coming tomorrow afternoon to take proper measurements and give me a written quote.

I've also noticed that even though I dialed a Huddersfield number, this organisation is national (able glaze). I'm also going to ring a local glazier for a quote.

EDIT:- the reasons why I may sound vague is because i'm female and don't have a clue about these things!
