Do you have any recourse against the surveyor and his "historical" crack? t's obviously not that historical if it's moved against a 7-year-old wall! Nope - it was full of disclaimers
I really liked the expanding foam underpinning. Yes it is great stuff
The drains blocked with fat are probably typical of ex-B&B... Exactly
The final "reveal" where the dining table was set was so obviously staged! What do you mean - it looked like that for at least 24 hours !!!
Personally as it's a big house on 3 storeys (no cellars? I like cellars) I would have kept a working fire alarm system We have a basement and have a great new fire alarm system !.
Hope that answers them LOL0 -
What i find slightly unusual is that (correct me if I'm wrong) Earth mother Beeny Big Baps isnt pregnant in this show..!Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

The house used to be a B&B so yes there are still fire alarms etc fitted (not working) as we haven't finished that area. This is an 18 roomed house and only 5 rooms were finished for the filming. We are still in the process of converting it into a 5 bedroom family house for us to live in!
As far as budget goes - we brought the house knowing what needed doing as Sarah said (except for the subsidence). Things happened to be worse than we orginally thought and YES we did have a full survery done which said the movement was historical and not going anywhere - just needed patching up and monitoring !I could tell before anyone even mentioned it, that it wasn't an historical, my only experience being having lived in a 1910 house and seeing 'old age cracks'.
Out of interest- how long were you told patching the roof would last? As I thought it interesting that SB said 'Patching the roof, isn't what I would have done, a new roof would last 100 years, patching less' but not said how much less she was talking about?0 -

BTW ...is she pregnant ..or is it a large beer belly ?
She had her fourth son in Oct 2009, so depending on when this programme was filmed she might be aiming for a fifth.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
thanks for coming back and posting - very interesting to have the other side of the story.
what gets me is when she does stupid things like bring in a fire engine to pour water all over your obviously leaky roof and then goes in and expresses surprise and outrage at the water running down your walls - i do hope she had the electricity off when she did that, i mean you had obvious holes for heavens sake!'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
That house had more holes than Swiss cheese in fact even a t-bag has less0

We had the Sarah Beeny recommended expert Jordan Heritage Roofing do all the work for us - most of the leaking problems turned out to be bad lead work and alot of frost damaged tiles !!! It also turns out that the whole roof was actually relaid in the mid 80's so most of the timbers were fine other than areas affected by the water damage.
We called in Timberwise to restore the original timbers0 -
The thing that struck me that was most impressive was the expanding foam underpinning, what a brilliant invention.0

I find it astonishing that a surveyor can be so wrong and not liable for it.
That's what professional indemnity insurance is for.
It seems pointless paying for an expert opinion if the opinion isn't worth the paper it's written on and has no comeback.
Also very interesting the C4 paid nothing towards it.
(Being a supplier to the industry) I've had approaches from a few programs on TV, more from Grand Designs subjects than any other, they expect you to supply everything free of charge for the "Publicity" which doesn't really exist if we're honest.0
