Honda dealer charge for new timing chain

The timing chain on my honda accord 56 plate has gone noisy which it has now done 90,000 miles. I just got the car last year. So i brang the car into the Honda dealer and they investigated and stripped the engine to check what the noise was. They came back to me and told me it was the timing chain and it would need replacing they quoted me 1,599 pounds to get it replaced. They then gave me a second surprise call and told me that with the timing chain the injector needs to be replaced (which is part of the work of the timing chain, which is what they told me) Now the total price is £2,999 pounds all in.

They contacted honda and they announced that honda would not contribute to the costs of the repair as they would only cough up if it was an 04 plate diesel as there was some sort of recall but not on any of the later models.

Please help me give me some advice, i do apologise if it has already been posted but i couldnt find any solution. Would it be better just to buy a new car? or if anyone has any garage recommendations for a cheaper cost of repair please do tell me!

Hope someone on this forum can help me out!,

For £2,999 I'd want a complete brand new engine fitting and £1000 change. Quite why they have to strip an engine to diagnose a timing chain is beyond me - sounds like balony.

Take it to a normal small local garage. They'll change it for 1/10th of the price.
  • I don't see how timing chain and injectors are related?
Nothing to see here, move along.
  • I'd be pushing for goodwill as Honda's warranties are 3yr/90k.

Then I'd go else where for the work! Not too sure why they want to do the injectors...

I asked them and they said because changing the timing cam chain 9/10 of the time will ruin the injectors so it would need new ones.

still looking for a garage around London to do the job! i dont mind going out a bit as long as they do a decent job!

Honda are are trying to get back some of their lost revenue, when they had to close down their factories for a while. This is an extortionate costs, for a fault which should be picked up at service intervals. If there is anything wrong with the timing chain, then you simply link the new chain to the old chain and feed it through, the job takes minutes. The injectors are not inside the engine, they are an ancillary part, bolted on to the cylinder head.
This smells to me very like bovine excrement.

Did the service manager say "changing the timing cam chain 9/10 of the time will ruin the injectors" with a straight face? What absolute nonsense. You are being given the runaround big time and I'd demand that Honda UK bring in a field engineer to assess whats been going on.

+ 1 for colino. The injectors have nothing to do with it. Are you sure he meant "injector" and not chain tensioner? Its always advisable to change the chain tensioner at the same time as the chain.

For sure they said the Injectors along with the tensioner.

Its making a loud rattle sound at the moment and its so loud that i cant hear the other cars engine while idling in traffic.
I think i dont have a choice but to drive and live with it at the moment until Honda UK gives in which i think they wont, but who knows?

I'm sorry, but you really shouldn't drive it anywhere if its making so much noise. Consequential damage if the tensioner falls apart/chain is thrown off and cuts through the timing casing would definitely be down to you now you know there is a problem.

So, changing the timing belt can affect the injectors?. Have Honda got themselves a design fault?
