iPhone travel insurance claim help!

Hi everyone,

First time post so i help someone can help! I have recently put in a travel claim to Mondial for my stolen iPhone. I got a letter through today saying the claim will be paid but they have valued my iPhone 3G at £89 so will only be paying me a fraction of that due to wear and tear and the excess. However, I stumped because i purchased my iPhone 3G about 16 months as part of a contract and the cost of the phone is built into the contract not just the upfront payment. To buy a replacement iPhone it would cost me a lot me that the amount they want to pay me.

I appreciate they dont pay on old for new but surely the value my iPhone cannot be taken on solely my up front payment meaning they totally disregard the cost of the contract?

I am slightly annoyed that i've wasted 8 weeks trying to claim only to get a few quid back! Anyone got any advice?

nothing you can really do i am afraid. the insurance companies usually will not budge.
one thing you could do is make a note of similar models selling on ebay etc and give this info to the insurance? or ask them to source another iphone for you?

i agree its a p**s poor offer and i really hope you get a better offer, fingers crossed.

p.s - can you claim on your home insurance? any cover away from home on it? i would ring your insurers and ask anyway, nothing to lose.
  • Your home insurance, if you have the cover, will provide you with "new for old" cover. In other words, you'd get a brand new 3GS (the current equivalent to your lost phone) but you'd have to pay your excess. Look on your home contents insurance for "personal possessions" or "away from home" cover (same thing - different name).
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.
