Insurance for travel

Hi,
Flying to Morocco for a week. Will be carrying mobile phones, laptop, cameras etc and some jewellery items - the usual stuff. Any tips on how best to insure all this incase anything gets lost/stolen/damaged during the visit?
Thanks.

Some may be covered by your contents insurance, if not buy a travel insurance policy, or ask how these items can be added to your home policy.0

Relying on travel insurance for those items would not be wise, it would be better to cover them under your home insurance0

i'm assuming that is because travel insurance claim values are capped - is that so? thanks.0

You would be best covering them fully on yur home insurance,
Tell the travel ins that yuo dont want them to cover items away from the home at all because an earlier thread this week said that they
had to make a claim on travel insurence, they were also covered by home ins. (without her realising it) the travel company then asked for half the payment from her home insurance and then came the hit, she had excesses to pay on both policies.
One or the other but not both.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
That is so, also travel is usualy paid out on an indemnity basis while your home contents insurer will cover you new for old. It is the personal posessions section that will provide the cover so make sure you have enough cover and the items are all within the single article limit or listed on the policy.
You still need to have travel insurance as that gives you the assistance services and medical cover which can be invaluable (ok, not invaluable, but very very valuable!)
edit, the above beat me to it. He is talking about contribution. Most policies will have this. If you have to make a claim then the home insurer will ask the travel insurer for a contribution to the cost of the claim on the ratable or liabile portion - half is a bit simplistic but it gives the idea.
Some travel insurers will be happy to exclude posessions cover but in most cases you just buy a package and that is it - not really an issue, if you have a claim it just reduces the total cost for your home insurer so less on your policy record with them.0 -

Home insurance is capped also for these items.
The reason you want them on home insurance is because presumably you carry your mobile phone and laptop when you are not on holiday but outside the home.
Travel insurance is for holidays.
Home insurance for personal possessions is for anywhere both inside and outside the home.
Ideally you would want a travle policy withouit personal possesions but as already stated you don't always get the option.0 -

As others have stated there are caps typically £150 per valuable item often with a total limit of £300 for all valuable items combined. In addition they don't pay out on a new for old basis but deduct wear and tear.
Your home insurance will typically have a limit of £1500 per item with a typical total limit of £2500 with claims being paid on a new for old basis except for clothing and linen.
Check with your Insurers first though to ensure you are covered and any exclusions (Some home insurers require phones and / or lap tops to be specified)0 -
Here is an example of what can happen if you rely on travel insurance to insure expensive items https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/27426400
