iPhone travel claim help!

Hi everyone,

First time post so i help someone can help! I have recently put in a travel claim to Mondial for my stolen iPhone. I got a letter through today saying the claim will be paid but they have valued my iPhone 3G at £89 so will only be paying me a fraction of that due to wear and tear and the excess. However, I stumped because i purchased my iPhone 3G about 16 months as part of a contract and the cost of the phone is built into the contract not just the upfront payment. To buy a replacement iPhone it would cost me a lot me that the amount they want to pay me.

I appreciate they dont pay on old for new but surely the value my iPhone cannot be taken on solely my up front payment meaning they totally disregard the cost of the contract?

I am slightly annoyed that i've wasted 8 weeks trying to claim only to get a few quid back! Anyone got any advice?

  • You need to check your insurance documents to see what they will pay out in terms of a mobile phone loss, insurance should leave you in the same position you were before the claim and a payout of £89 certainly wouldn't. I think the cheapest you can get an iphone 3g is around £300, but someone may correct me, so you should be looking for a payout in this region.
  • In my view student_84 is giving right view .............hope it will help you...........i will more advice later.

A travel insurance does not pay claims on a new for old basis, they pay claims on an indemnity basis which means they deduct wear and tear. So if you have a phone that cost say £300 two years ago and it has an expected life of say 3 years they will deduct 66% from the new price and pay you £100.
