We have the Catmate C50 too!0

I'm looking for an automatic cat feeder that is, well, cat proof. I had the same C50 that has been recommended on here for the best part of a year, until one of my cats worked out how to hook their claws under one of the trays and open it up......
I've since tried the Staywell Pet Pod digital feeder but she's worked out how to open that too.
I only use mine at weekends, I'm up at 5:30 in the week so they are used to being fed then, and putting the automatic feeder on enables me to have a lie in!!
I'd apperciate any recommendations for feeders that might be more difficult for her to hook her claws under and openThanks!

My cat picks at her food at different times...it would bother me that I'd set the timer but she'd be off out playing somewhere then when she appeared for food it might be closed. How do you get round that with an automatic feeder?0

Ellay864 - The feeders i've had are on a type of 'spring release' so the door just sprang open at the time set, and then stayed open, I've not seen ones that close after a certain time....0

Staywell digital didn't last 5 minutes before my 6 month old kitten got into it! Utter rubbish that I took back to Argos as it wasn't fit for purpose.
We changed it for the C20, which as a 2 and a half year old he's yet to break into! Only good for 2 feeds, so not as many as the C50 but it has a 48hr timer on it which is nice.0 -
Am I the only one that thinks this is great and saves loads of dosh?!
I often go away for a night or 2 and pay can pay up to £30 for cattery bills or buy thank-you gifts for friends that pop in to feed him while I'm away that all add p to the cost of the trip.
I do use a feeder for one night but anymore would always use a Cattery of Sitter as you really don't know what could happen and if my Cats got really sick or injured and because no one at least checked on them I wouldn't forgive myself.
Also if you go away and you for some reason are not able to get back when you though and are unable to get anyone to go into see your cat that could also cause problems. I find a Cattery is better for piece of mind.0 -
I have the C20 and think its great. When I had both my cats I used to be able to leave them for 2 nights as was able to get 4 pouches worth of food in the two trays and I would also leave them plenty of dried food in a couple of other bowls as well. My cats were timid and hated any visitors so would just run off if anyone came round, although they loved affection and being stroked by me they wouldn't go near anyone else! So as long as they were fed I didnt worry about them as they had each other for company and had an open cat flap so were free to come and go as they wanted.
Its a different story now I only have the one cat left who is now approaching 17, I feel very guilty leaving him for more than one night as he has become much more affectionate and clingy in his old age! If Im going away for more than one night I pay for a professional cat sitter (qualified vetinerary nurse) to come in and feed him twice a day, he won't go near her but it gives me peace of mind that she is going in and checking on him and I can text her to make sure all is ok.
TBH I don't know if anyone else feels like this but whereas when I had the two cats and they were younger I would quite happily go for a weeks holiday and get either a friend or catsitter to feed them, now I only have the one old cat I haven't been on holiday for more than a couple of days as am so worried about him. I know its ridiculous not to go on a proper holiday because of a cat but thats how I feelI would just feel terrible if he got sick or died and I wasn't there. Especially because of how his brother died two years ago - literally just dropped dead of heart failure on the dining room floor with no sign of ill health or any change in behaviour. Sorry Ive gone off on a tangent
but anyway yes the catfeeders are great although I always left dried food as a back up just in case the feeder failed for any reason!

Depends on the cat - the tripod does not travel well (she hates my driving more than my husbands... traitor, but will miaow, cry, yell, vomit, defacate, pee - the full monty - you invariably end up at your destination with a bodily fluid covered ball of feline wrath). For a cat like that, who has a real need to be in her own settled home environment (this being the mog who has glared a new chair into submission for hours as it dared muck up HER living room) - we get a friend to pop in every day and top up food/deliver ear scratches as that's the kindest option we've found (measured on the scale of the length of the feline sulk when we got home).
Who can blame her - last time she went into a cattery type cage environment at the V-E-T she came out missing her lady cat plumbing and a leg!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

The digital Staywell PetPod is a joke, takes my cat less than 3 seconds from me placing it on the floor to him eating his prize from inside! I use the feeder for the same reason as you, to prevent me from being woken up at the crack of dawn by a hungry cat
The C20 is not digital but it IS cat-proof. The timer dial has a notch cut out that means it can only spring open when the dial has worked it's way round to zero so unless your cat can figure out how to twist the dial round with it's paw (unlikely as it's recessed) then it is 100% cat proof and can't be claw-hooked or nose-poked open!0 -
Meant to say... If you do get one the only flaw is that a cat who is used to breaking into the Staywell PetPod with such ease will probably spend hours bashing the hell out of the C20.
The only snag is that the battery doesn't have a cover like the PetPod so the battery can become dislodged while it's being thrown about by an annoyed cat! This of course means the timer stops and breakfast will not be servedI solved this by putting a piece of sellotape over the battery so it can't fall out.
