Am I the only one that thinks this is great and saves loads of dosh?!
I often go away for a night or 2 and pay can pay up to £30 for cattery bills or buy thank-you gifts for friends that pop in to feed him while I'm away that all add p to the cost of the trip.
I decided to try an automatic pet feeder, its about £40 depending on where you go, I got mine for under £30.
You slot in the cooling packs underneath, set the really simple timer to open up each compartment of food at the times you want for up to 5 feeds -which is all weekend! Its fab I love it!
I'll save bundles in the future.
I tried it out on him the week before I went and he was absolutely fine with it.
Mine's got a lifetime Guarentee too.
Will feel a bit silly if I am the last person to know about these but its highly recommended anyway for those with sensible cats and a love of weekends away.

I use them if I have to work away overnight, it saves the dog sitter having to go upstairs into the cats domain - visitors stress them out! Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

I just leave enough dried food out for my cats for as long as they need it. Mine don't eat everything at once I can sort of gauge how much they eat per day and leave that plus a bit extra. I trained them to do that so I COULD go away without worrying about feeding them. When I am home I also feed them wet food though, but I do it random evenings so they don't get used to it being a daily occurrence.0

We recently bought one of these feeders too and also love it. We quite often stay at either mine or OHs parents house for an odd night (especially if we've been at a do and want to have a drink) so it's really handy- the neighbour's bottle of wine/ flowers/chocs was starting to add up plus I still felt guilty asking too often. Our cat could never ever be trusted with all his (dry) food in one go, it would be gone within a couple of hours as he is so greedy.0

I agree, i'm saving money not having to buy gifts and also time as I usually spent some valuable shopping time while away searching for a suitable thank-you gift! And I was also running out of friends to ask as i'd asked so many times.
And my cat would do the same, he'll eat anything until its gone, not until he's full!

They are great for short periods, but I would probably still get someone to come in and make sure my bunch were alright, as they are very people orientated cats and could get quite lonely. At least, that's what they tell me when they bundle me when I come in the door - quite unlike every other cat I have ever had, where they usually ignored me for hours after being away for a couple of days.
But I'm probably just falling for their cunning scheme to ensure that I feel guilty if I'm not putting their comfort above that of myselfI could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Ha ha, they got you!
My cat is the most travelled cat I'm sure, we tend to rent cottages all over the UK for holidays a few times a year and always take him with us bless him. Yes quite sad I know.
Mine is a grumpy old git, Victor Meldrew in cat form. Hisses, scratches and bites but he's got really big cute eyes like puss in boots from Shreck, but thats Character and he's lovely most of the time so I love him lots!
He has just been sent home from the Vets early though for being naughty and doing all the above whenever the nurses opened his cage, Very embarassing
Anyway, the feeder is fab for weekend, I couldn't leave him for longer than that anyway, but he doesn't give a crap if I'm there or not really!0 -
Yay we love ours too. It is usually used when we are both out after work and otherwise they wouldn't be fed until past 10pm. But we also use it for one or 2 nights away. If it's 2 nights, they do always let us know that they weren't that happy with us by giving us the cold shoulder when we come back :-) But it doesn't take long for them to remember that really it's quite nice sitting on a lap and being stroked0

Can anyone recommend a particualr brand and/or model of automatic cat feeder? Any links welcome.

Well the one I started this thread about is a Cat Mate C50, either Argos or Pets at home0

Yep that's the one we have too. This is the cheapest I could find (£28.31 + 3.99 P&P), although there are quite a few on ebay and they seem to go for less than £25 inc P&P.
We went for the 5 meal one because our cat has 2 meals a day so this way we can leave him for 2 nights. I wouldn't want to leave him for anymore than that (and he is going to the cattery for the first time ever next month).0
