Pre-paid Travel Card for Under 18s?

My son is off to NYC on a school trip and I wanted to load his spending money onto a pre-paid $ travel card, but they all seem to be for over 18s only. Can anyone recommend a card that I can get for a child under 18?

There are plenty of UK pre-paid cards for under 18s, but if you start using them abroad the fees start to stack up - and none that I've found offer the kind of deals you get with a $ travel card such as free ATM withdrawls...

if for cash withdrawals only, get one yourself and give it to him with the PIN.

Won't work in shops so much, many in the US ask for photo ID...but for withdrawals it should work.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

If he has the same name as his dad then I'd agree that would work...if he has a different name than his dad, not so much as he won't be able to produce a photo ID when asked.

You can get him one as a secondary card. ;)

You must be over 18, a permanent resident in the UK, and have a UK debit card.

You may apply for secondary cards for family members or friends as long as they are aged 13 or older.
  • Wow, that was quickly sorted, thank you everyone. :j I think getting a second card is the best solution (must have missed that info in all the t&c's I read) just in case they do ask for photo ID...
