I want to drive another vehicle

Hi, car insurance due- discovered I am not covered to drive another vehicle not owned or leased etc by me- unless I pay virtually double the quote. It seems all companies do this now. Has anyone else found this? Is there a company that includes it like they used to?
Many thanks

Always had it on my policies. Just taken out a new policy and it's on that too.

It's only meant for emergencies and I've probably only used it once or twice... but it's reassuring to have.

If you're over 50 Saga policies include driving any car - only third party cover, though.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
  • If you have a fully comp policy with Admiral and are over 25 they allow you too I think.

    Same with Direct Line iirc.

From memory it's fairly standard on most policies if you're over 25/have a few years under the belt, but always worth checking before you sign up.
However I suspect it's possibly not standard on really cheap policies (the sort where they have a charge for everything).
  • i have a policy with e car insurance and have always had the entitlement to drive another car 3rd party with the owners consent and thats been on my policy ever since i passed my driving test 2 years ago.

this has been mentioned ad nauseum on the forum - it's only emergencies if the policy explicitly states that.
Some companies do state that it is for occasional use whereas others (eg mine - RAC) don't put a limit on it - I'm simply insured to drive other cars not owned by me as long as I have permission.

Most companies clamped down to stop them buying sporty cars & insuring a 1.1 model instead. All my policies
have had driving other cars included, But i do ask that question now just in case.

I had one once kwik fit i think? That did not have it included.

Dont forget your only covered 3rd party, So if you write off somebody elses car and it is deemed your fault
you owe them a car. Can you afford to buy them another one?

Not sure what would happen if it's a 50/50 claim. But it can take a long time if fault is disputed. They would
    be carless in the meantime.

I'd have said terms like "emergencies only" and "occasional use only" are way too vague & subjective to ever appear in a contract of insurance

Most, if not all policies are; drive other vehicles not owned by the insured. And then a majority of them also need the other car to have it's own insurance in place, so that was never really an issue.
