there is/has been something wrong on your line - BT's DLM has set your downstream snrm to 30dB !!!!! no wonder you're only getting 300-oddk down..possibly not helped by you unpluging it all the time - routers are best left on 24/7.
dial 17070 and pick option 2 for a quiet line test, with only the phone plugged in, nothing else. any noise of any description indicates a line fault, and should be reported as a voice fault in the first instance. Sorting this may also clear a bb fault. If quiet line test is ok, I would call zen and possibly ask for help...you should be syncing around 7000 kb/s downstream on ADSL2+ with your attenuation.
But first things first, check your internal set-up:-

this will help for when you call zen, as these tutorials will cover some of what they'll ask you to do......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

IP Profile...............
http://www.speedtester.bt.com/
If your router/modem has been switched off/on a few times a day that can drop your IP profile which will give you a lower speed.0 -
I did the quiet line test this morning, which was fine. Planning to move the router later so that we can leave it plugged in all the time (we can't at the moment). Will also look at the socket to see about removing the bell wire.
Just did a BT speed test and got this

Is it possible that the op has been watching too many videos, iPlayer streams (does iPlayer count towards fair useage?) etc and has fallen foul of their fair usage?
Just a thought.Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -

That's not the case at all - we have a 10Gb monthly allowance and the most we ever use is half of it, we only watch the occasional programme on iPlayer and odd video on YouTube!
Anyway, after doing more research, it seems our BRAS profile is stuck at 350Kbps, I've logged onto the Zen customer portal and it says our current maximum download speed is 350Kbps
We've gone out and bought a new router yesterday, connected to the phone line via ultra high speed modem cable from Maplins. We'll be able to leave the router on all the time from now on. Will the speed increase on its own after 3 days, or do I need to contact Zen or BT to get the BRAS/IP Profile increased?0 -
I would contact your ISP and let them know that your IP/bRas profile has dropped.
I can't remember how long it takes to get your IP/bRas profile back up to what it was before (3 days at least) but your ISP will inform you.
You will need to leave your router/modem on 24/7 untill it has got back to normal.
Once it is back to what is was you can if you want turn your router/modem off at night and turn it back on in the morning (before 10 am) without it effecting your IP Profile but remember not to turn it off/on within short intervals during the day.0 -
If the profile's stuck, you may need to get zen to get bt to unstick it.
Another useful tip for you - get yourself over to the kitz forums http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php register, and seek out azzaka, who is a zen tech rep and helps out peeps with your sort of issues......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
