Only getting 0.3Mbps on broadband - help please!

I'm with Zen Internet, have been with them for years with no problems. I have a BT Voyager 2110 router, connected to my computer via wire. I'm running Vista Ultimate with SP2. Normally we get a broadband speed of around 3.5Mbps, we are on the 20Meg service but have been told the best we could get is around 6. The past couple of weeks all I've been able to get is 0.3Mbps, it's really slow and I can't watch any videos, iPlayer etc. We haven't changed anything to do with our phone/broadband set up so don't understand why it's gone slower.
I've tried changing the filters and tried plugging the router directly into the phone socket without the extension I normally use, but it didn't help. We have quite an old master socket so it doesn't have the test socket behind the faceplate. I've scanned with Malwarebytes etc and didn't find anything. I've tried my husband's laptop and that isn't any better.
Could it be the router or the line that's at fault? I don't want to ring BT to report a line fault and find out there was something else I should have tried first! Could anyone help?
My router stats are:

Can you borrow another router obviously make sure you save there settings etc it might be a case of elimination
Obviously you only want BT as a last resort. Also disconnect any other phones/extension in case its that thats at fault0 -

Did try connecting the phone and just having the router plugged in on its own, but it didn't make any difference. Unfortunately we don't have another router to try!0 -
They will always tell you to plug the modem directly to the master socket.
Unplug all extensions i.e. sky etc, and phone lines. See if the speed works.
Change the filters.
As your line has been fine recently - I suggest you to see if the speed is better in the morning. If so, the culprit is the ADSL provider!Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'

Have you rebooted the router?
I have found on occasion that this does help.0 -
If its the modern type socket there is an internal socket when you under do the two screws

I've already tried unplugging everything else and changing the filters - no change to the speed. It doesn't seem to matter what time of day it is either!Have you rebooted the router?

We unplug the router when we're not online, as we've got very few electrical sockets in this house and we have to use it on an extension lead, so I don't want to leave it plugged in the whole time. Won't that reboot it when it's unplugged?NeverInDebt wrote: »
Our master socket looks nothing like this, as I said it's quite old and it doesn't have a split faceplate on the front. Some bright spark thought it would be a good idea to put it at the bottom of the stairs in a corner away from everything else too!Do you know what your IP Profile is?
No, how do I find this out please?0 -

You must be on a shared BT exchange.
The suspect is either:
(1) The telephone extension line if you have one.
(2) The master bt socket.
(3) Filter
(4) modem
(5) the provider
(6) The telephone line itself.
(6) Do you get any crackling? Does it phone out or phone in?
If the above do not work, phone up the provider and get them out. Alternatively, switch providers - you will be surprised!Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'
