It has a small kitchen but the potential to knock through to an attached storage cupboard.
It needs modernisation throughout but seems quite solid.
I am interested but other half isn't as he thinks it will cost too much, e.g. re-wire, update heating, kitchen knock-thru, outdated bathroom etc.
I am trying to convince him that it might be worth an offer but he thinks that it would be unlikely they would accept. Not sure of the circumstances but there is no upper chain.

You need to be in total agreement whenever you buy a place as afterwards there will be a lot of time for argument and stuff like this has been known to damage relationships.
Move on there will be other (more suitable) houses out there.0

Well, I like it but then I'm not from around your way - you say it needs modernisation - but does it all in one go?
Is it a place for you to live in for the forseeable future or do you plan to move in the next year or two?
How much of a deposit are you looking to put down - will you have a lot of equity in the place when (if) you buy?
Does your OH want to move? Has he come up with any suggestions as to the type of house he wants/likes?0

If his only concern is the cost of the work makes your possible offer so low they will refuse then there is no harm trying. If they say no it doesnt cost you anything. If they say yes then happy days.
If he doesnt want the hassle of the work and doesn't like the rest of the house/location then its probably not worth offering.0

OH likes the house itself, i.e. the location and the fact it is detached. Not being a diy man, he sees a massive, expensive project which he has no idea of costs.0

It is liveable in and I like decorating, obviously we would be inconvenienced when knocking it through to extend kitchen.
We intend to live there forever (well, as long as we can see ahead).
OH wants to move, we have already sold ours, are staying with relatives and could be cash buyers.0

That's how I feel. I won't allow myself to get too attached although I did like it a lot.0

the house doesn't look too bad (apart from the price obviously)
what are planning to do to it exactly?"The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

It is empty and looks like it has been barely tarted up for sale (grass scalped and a good clean).
Check with planning or building control re plans to expand into the kitchen. Would you be better off with a decent utility room?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
