Give them a call, the number is on the receipt. The time I had a problem I just returned it on my next visit with the receipt and they exchanged it for me.

  • Hope you didn't swallow it :(

When I had a dodgy chicken I made them deliver me a fresh one straight away ;)

  • Hiya,
I would call them asap! I bought a pack of pancakes the other day from Co-Op and it was past it's use by date by just one day. I called them and they sent me a voucher for £5 for the inconvenience.
I know there's a difference in use by and best before but they should definitely sort you out.

Tesco obviously dont check their shelves as often as they should.
I recently bought some Anchovy paste ( on home delivery ) and noticed it was 8 MONTHS !!! past it's sell by date. I rang them and they told me to take it back. I refused, i dont have a car and the store is 15 miles away ( why else would I get them to deliver ? ). I sent it in a jiffy bag to their head office who sent me a £5 gift card, but they werent really too interested that the were selling such old produce.

I'd want more than £5 for potentially damaging my health.

Over the summer I bought a drink from M&S, and only realised after taking a mouthful that it was 3 weeks out of date. They gave me £80 worth of gift vouchers and two bottles of Chateux Neuf du Pape (one red and one white)...

They were really good - recorded exactly what happened, told me what I needed to do if I felt ill (keeping samples etc)...

when the manager came over he obviously had a bottle of red wine, a bottle of white and some gift vouchers in his hands. I expected that he would ask which I wanted, not give them all to me. I have to admit to nearly having a heart attack when I realised how many vouchers were there! It's hard to look angry when you can't stop smiling :) Used them to buy a new dinner service :D

i used to work there and around septemeber last year (2005)... i found oil and juice on the top shelf of the organics section... BB sometime in 2003!!!!!!!!

When i showed my manager his excuse was, it was at the back of the shelf no-one could reach anyway.. and that the guy whos usual job it was to stock out that section had bad knees so couldnt climb on a stool to reach the back of the shelf so would just "pull forward" what he could reach - but i shouldnt worry about it!!

The only sections that get religiously "rotated" every night are the fresh food sections, like the fridges and the fruit n veg.
  • Having worked in Booths, Gateway, Somerfield and Co-op when I was younger, I recommend that you check the date on ALL food - even stuff that takes years to go out of date!
