PPI Barclays Secured Loan

Hi all
I am sure that a secured loan i had with Barclays was sold with PPI as part of the loan ie they said i had to have it to take out the loan. This was 5/6 years ago, and after having the loan for 2 years i paid it off. I have been trying to find the paperwork i had but can not find it anywhere to prove if this was the case or not. Where do i go from here? Even if i paid the loan off i think the premium for the insurance was paid off in full as well so i believe i may have a case to reclaim it. Can any one point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark
You could request for a Subject Access Request (SAR), where they have 40 calendar days to comply and send all they hold on your account, going back the last 6 years.
There is a SAR template letter for this here;
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1475553
You enclose £10 cheque or postal order for this request.
Another way, which is the cheapest way - you can try requesting for copies of your agreement, but they don't always hold on to these on settled accounts, but it maybe worth a try.
Just write a simple letter to request for a copy of your agreement, and give your account number details, and enclose a £1 cheque or postal order, ask they comply and send by 12-14 days.
Then onto the reclaiming.....
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance
You will come across a reclaiming ppi questionnaire that replaced the first reclaiming template letter on this site, further down the page on above link as stage one.
Complete, and send to whoever set up and arranged the policy from the start.
Keep a copy for your records, as you may need to refer to it sometime.
They have 8 weeks to give a decision, although they may ask for more time and give a timescale of when you should hear, that is fine, just as long as you know where you are.
You can write a cover letter if you want to - to enclose with the questionnaire, that is up to you.
Good luck, please keep us updated, cheers.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

thanks Di
i have`nt got any account numbers though as have`nt got any paper work. So i presume i can just send as much detail ie name address date of birth etc and they will be able to track it down.
Will give it a try and let you all know what happens

Yes that is fine.
Also just to say, if you been paying for the loans etc from your bank account you use now, then the account numbers should be shown next to the monthly repayments on statements, so if you bank online, this should also allow you to go back about 7 years or so.
Otherwise, yes give them as many details as possible.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Hi all
I have tracked down my account number now , though have not heard anything back from Barclays.
I am going to now send a SAR letter but unsure of the best address to send it too.
Would it be best to send to Customer Services ? as the letter i sent previous was to the Privacy and Data protection department as i thought that would be where they hold such info.
Thanks
ps who is the cheque made out to , would it be just barclays / barclaycard or leave blank?0 -

Hi there
I would assume you would make the cheque out to Barclays Bank PLC, I would not leave it blank, or they will send it back.
And hopefully someone can confirm, but for the SAR I assumed it was the data dept.

Well i have received a short letter containing t`s and c`s and photocopy of the secured loan and PPP was £6,975.
Although I paid the loan of early i believe the premium for PPP was paid off in full so should i be entitled to a complete refund?
Time now to issue a letter to Barclays asking for a refund as per the steps on this site i think..
thanks...0 -
Hi there
Sorry I missed your earlier post.
So this is for the SAR on all your data on the account, they have 40 calendar days from when they receive this request, keep an eye on the £10 coming out of your account - if you paid by cheque.
If you have a settled loan, then your entitled to all the ppi you have paid, plus interest.
More on reclaiming here.....
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#reclaim
Complete the questionnaire, send to whoever set up and sold you the loan from the start.
Please note these reclaimining questionnaire replaced the reclaim template letter on this site, and was issued by the financial ombudsman service (FOS) for this purpose.
Remember to keep a copy in case you need to refer to it at some point.
They have 8 weeks but may ask for more time, due to backlogs, but hope you hear sooner with a good result.
Fingers crossed.:)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Quick update.
Posted my reclaim questionaire and had it recorded by post office.
Found out today my letter has been lost in the system.
I have been waiting over a month for Barclays reply and i know i should have checked the tracking earlier but lost the receipt and found it this morning.
So, another letter/questionaire on its way!
i am sure i`ll get there in the end.0 -
