Changing an iPhone contract on orange after just purchasing it?

Just got the new iPhone 4 and am on the orange contract for £40 a month which I am now thinking is a little too much for me. Will I be able to call the store today and ask them to lower the tariff? To £35? As it's only been one day...?

  • Assuming you had to pay something towards the handset, I imagine if they let you change the tariff, they'll make you pay the difference between the handset price on the £40 tariff, & the handset price on the £35 tarif.
COMP WINS FOR HUBBY & I SINCE SEPTEMBER:

  • Thanks I wouldn't mind paying the cost of the handset at 35 as I thinking now I don't use my phone that much and it was a bit of an impulse buy although I have wanted one for ages. Do you think going instore to ask is better than ringing up 'to check'.
  • I would ring personally. The staff in the shops never seem to know much about anything! Lol!

  • As I bought my phone in store they said that I can't change till after 9 months :(
  • Cant you just cancel it and get the £35 a month? Am sure Orange gives so long to cancel....
  • They said I couldn't cancel, maybe I wasn't mean enough on the phone but he said cos he showed me the phone and contract I will be unable to change until after the 9 months.

There's no cooling off period for anything bought in store, you only get that if you buy online or over the phone.

Have you called Orange? It's not usually a problem to move up to a higher tariff.
  • I probably got my wording wrong but i want to change my monthly contract to a lower one. But I guess I will just do it at the 9 months they said I had to wait.

From memory, the Iphone 4 are about £60 cheaper on an 18 month contract for £40 per month (rather than £35).

So if you downgrade after 9 months, that will work out cheaper than taking the initial £35 per month contract and having to pay more for the phone upfront.

I'd go with that, just remember to put a calendar reminder in so you can check how many minutes you are using after 9 months and then change contract if needed accordingly.
