BT Cancellation charges

Hi,
If anyone could offer any advice it would be much appreciated.
I signed up with BT in June 2009 signing up to a 12 month contract for Line rental and evening & weekend calls. I then moved home in November 2009 when i spoke to the adviser at BT they told me because of the move they would have to restart my 12 month contract from scratch. which was not a problem.
I am now in the process of moving again but have also found a better deal with O2. I phoned BT to end my contract and was told my 12 month Line rental contract would end in November as expected but my Evening and weekend calls deal was under a different 12 month renewable contract and would not due to end until June 2011.
First off i did not know this was a "renewable" contract and i have looked at BTs current packages and cannot see anything that says they are 12 month renewable contracts just 12 month contracts??
Secondly the adviser i spoke to when i moved the first time told me they had to restart my contract not that they would restart part of my contract... why would anyone have 2 different start dates for the same thing?
They now want to charge me £78 to end my contract with them, i asked the adviser what the charge would be if "both" contracts were ending in November and i was told £22...
How can i get out of paying the ridiculously high fee???
If anyone could offer any advice it would be much appreciated.

But you need a BT Line to get O2 Homephone. So be careful about cancelling things.0 -
Only the free evening and weekend package is 'renewable', your minimum service for the line would be 12 months minimum, then 1 month notice of termination. If relocating, it makes sense NOT to commit to this scheme, as it is designed to retain customers. Since O2 uses your BT line anyway, you'd be best servced to note when your renewal date is due, then opt out of the E&W. You can then give 30 days notice of terminating as a customer, and go to anyone else you wish.0

FWIW BT are reducing their early cancellation charges in October:

Please don't assume this.....i do it for the love of taking on and beating the big plcs and i have 100% success rate thus far....i'm in the know but not willing to post my knowledge in the public domain. If someone takes it and posts it, it's against their name and not mine.
Thanks young David.0 -

Don't cancel until October (see below) because Ofcom has forced greedy BT (et al) to reduce cancellation charges by up to 85%! :T
