I voted other. I'm an animist pagan who chooses to follow a northern tradition path.

How is it that the whole of human history revolves around this homeless Galilean preacher who was betrayed, abandoned at laughed at?

It doesn't. 2000 years is a blink of the eye in terms of human history and christians are not even close to being the majority of humans, let alone all (and never were).

At least on this point pagans have something in common with God. Jesus' first miracle was at a big party that would have lasted several days. The Bible gives us several pictures of heaven being a place for celebrations, wine, song, dance and good food. Jesus loved a party, a drink and hanging out with party goers.

I agree that paganism should have a place in the list for it is a predominant philosophy. Pagan icons show how the human body is important to their worship. Go to any news agent to see how body worship is preeminent. This is most apparent in the proliferation of hard core !!!!!! in the shops of our village and towns. Men's insatiable appetite for the lie that !!!!!! offers is a remarkable illustration of how paganism is rooted in our culture and growing.

Of course the exclusive message of Christmas is that God came into human history to show a path away from paganism and religion. That worshipping self, the body, moralism or mankind's religions is the path to destruction. He showed that love is about generosity, compassion and ultimately personal sacrifice. After His resurrection, where he displayed his sovereignty over creation, the church started. 2000 years later we are still celebrating the birth of a man born into obscurity to a teenage mum. Jesus was homeless, said that He was God come into human history, was betrayed, abandoned, tortured and we killed him.

That's intriguing that so many should still be worshipping Him as God and celebrating His birth. Either He is who he said He was or He was an eloquent liar who somehow staged his own death and resurrection. We have the wonderful gift of free will to determine for ourselves which.

Those aren't the only two possibilities. I'd say they're the two least likely.

It might be a little bit more to do with one of the most powerful empires in history using it to their advantage. But what did the Romans ever do for us! ?

A popular rational to explain the phenomenal impact of Jesus Christ on human history by suggesting the Romans somehow rewrote and packaged the record to suit their needs. However, given the Bible is 66 books, from 44 authors, written over the course of around 3000 years that foretells the coming of Jesus, reports his life and then the consequences, it's a stretch of the imagination to suggest it's somehow a stitch up. Millions of people worship Jesus as who He claimed to be; the Life, The way and the Truth. If that's the case then the other religions, philosophies and ideas are false or if not then Jesus is a liar. It's not really very complicated. Happy Christmas. :money:
