Knitting is a fairly inexpensive hobby and ideal for winter evenings. You can also make gifts for family and friends in the process. Sometimes you can find wool and patterns in local charity shops. You may find a knitting circle in your area and if you can't, you could aways start your own! It's a great way to learn and have a social at the same time.
I am in the middle of a jumper for my little nephew at the moment, the last one I made him went down a storm and kept me busy.0 -
We have invested in a cineworld unlimited card each. As we both love the cinema this means we can pay 1 monthly fee & go to the cinema whenever we like (without having to count the pennies) - always good when you just want to get out & go somewhere! You can also use the unlimited card together with Orange Wednesday - so can work out even cheaper if you only go on Wed.0

The Manchester Science Festival is on from the 23rd to 31st October 2010, there are loads of events and a lot of them are free. It's also good timing for families as it falls during half term time. :T

Use your public library to borrow books, CDs and DVDs (while you still have one) - cost free or minimal charge. You can search and reserve items online.
Find out if they have reading groups - free night out and a laugh with like minded people. Also often there are author talks for a small charge.0 -
Having a pet is expensive but they can be great fun...especially a long walk with a dog and a ball! Great for the whole family and a free form of exercise!
The Cinnamon trust (http://www.cinnamon.org.uk/) help elderly people with their pets when they can't cope and one of the things they need is dog walkers! It's free but you have to be registered (which is easy but needs a passport photo etc).
They generally look for walkers for short term (eg when someone is in hospital or after an op) and you can do as little or as much as you like / can do!
There you go...free fun with dog walking, free exercise and doing your bit for a charity!! :-)0 -
An interesting trip is to be in the studio audience for programmes being filmed, Jeremy Kyle and Paul O'Grady shows were very good. Sometimes you get freebies e.g a weekend away for everyone in the audience (that was a fantastic unexpected bonus) If the show is filmed in London try and get £1 coach or cheap train tickets. Vsit a free museum, print some vouchers for cheap food and you have a fantastic day out for not a lot of cash. Even cheaper, take a picnic lunch! Google will find you sources of free tickets. Hope that helps.0
