Jobseeker Allowance: Declined

Hi guys, hope everyone is well.

I have just been sent a letter for JSA saying they cannot pay my JSA allowance from 2 Sep (When I signed on) as I have not paid, or been credited with, enough Class 1 National Insurance Contributions.

They have used tax years ending 5 april 2008 and 5 April 2009 to assess my claim.

They say they 'may still credit me with Class 1 National Insurance Contributions if I continue to attend the jobcentre.'

My first reaction was... HOLD UP... WHAT?

I have worked full-time hours from Sep 2008 to Sep 2010 with no gap or break. So I don't really understand. Saying that though, I didn't really know what to expect when signing on.

I'm only looking for a little bit of income while I get myself back in a job.

Any info, comments, feedback or insight greatly appreciated.

Love you all.

They use 1 whole year for benefits calculations, from April to April. It looks as if yu didnt pay any contributions between April 08 up to October 08, (were you not signing on or working in those few months) so you didnt pay a whole tax year, You paid a full year from April 09 and April 10 but thats not the year that they use.

You must keep signing on to keep your contributions up to date so that if you need to claim in 2 years time it will be okay.
Dont forget, these contributions also affect your state pension.

    Sorry.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Your gf earns too much for you to qualify for IB JSA. Are you both under 25?

Yes we are both under 25. It's the contributions based benefits that I applied for.

If you were 25 you would be eligible for WTC. Have you applied for LHA and CTB? That's all I can think of I'm afraid.

We are living with her folks, till get re-employed. So I don't thinkin im entitled to any of that.

The one thing I was counting on though was jobseekers. It is absolutely rediculous if I am not entitled to it even though I have worked for the last 2 years while so many others have abused it.

Its not ridiculous, you havent paid enough contributions to be awarded it.

Anyone else not paying enough contributions would not be awarded it either.
Could your g/f help out with your board and lodge till you find a job.

  • Im sorry to argue here, but I think it IS rediculous. I have worked for the last 2 years straight 40 hours a week and contributed the normal tax every month. All the while the scum of society abuse and live on that money making minimal effort to find a job.

I would have thought it would have been a no brainer to expect minor financial support while I get myself back in work.

I have contributed plenty, but as seemingly always with the system.. nothing back for it.
