Anyone else find B&Q expensive?

  • I use them as a last resort for minor things only. Customer service is rubbish and i have yet to meet one of their "experts" that actually knows anything.

  • I agree with all your comments, especially the customer service; when I was in there last time there were no staff on the checkouts, just one lady on the self-check-out (DIY checkout!! :rotfl:). One poor chap was trying to buy a door, which he couldn't hold and scan at the same time and when he leaned it on the checkout he then couldn't see the screen!!

try screwfix direct as i believe they are owned by the same co. as b&q and prices tend to be much lower
and you can use the online catalogue option

My local B&Q have fitted these self-service checkouts - ridiculous trying to balance 3m long pieces of timber on the scales and they no longer provide bags so find yourself struggling to carry an armful of bits out to the car.

Oh and the new trade outlets/check-outs they've set-up which are only for trade members so you have to take your timber/sheet goods to the opposite end of the store and try to get them through self service/small checkouts only to have to walk all the way back to get to the car.

Rubbish, I now avoid B&Q whenever possible. Thank god for Toolstation/Screwfix. If only Wickes had a better selection of timber and a panel saw.

Wickes have always had a better quality of timber than B&Q. You just have to be a bit selective when choosing your pieces.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

I'm lucky enough to have an old fashioned hardware shop near me so B & Q. Homeb@se, etc are a last resort. Far too expensive.

  • recently needed to buy a cheap worktop for 34 quid.....too long for my car but they wanted 20£ for delivery 2 miles away and not delivered for 3 days!!!!!! so wrong!!!!

the price of paint esp dulux too much

the annoying bit is when u might need to go back to b&q for touching up a project.. like when i installed my worktop i needed the end stop to make it neater.. a piece of metal for what 7.99 odd.....

i try wilkos now..homebase is even worse! if they bq want to be expensive let them ..

oh dont get me started on their flowers for hanging baskets

As mentioned above, always shop online first - toolstation, screwfix, and homebase have full online catalogues now. Toolstation for a worktop end is £1.40ish.
