Spotting Scams?

We have recieved a letter from a company called Pro-search claiming that they are working for Centrica. As we had AA breakdown cover when the AA were sold to Centrica we are apparently intitled to claim £248.56. Is this a scam? How can you tell if letters are real or a scam? Can anyone help?

If it's too good to be true, what do you think? This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

As far as I recall, the AA was demutualised in 1999. It has been sold on a couple of times since. I think each Full member, who had breakdown cover at that time got a payment, I cannot recall what it was.0

Payout in 1999 was about £240, are the company asking you to pay them any fees?0

Could only find this on Pro Search. Seems to be an 'asset' relinking company. Is this the one mentioned in the letter. If so, they have a contact facility on their website.

Why can you not conduct your own search? You already have the necessary information."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0
