The Nationwide credit card still has free foreign transactions (in the EU anyway, 1 per cent elsewhere) - it's the debit card that is starting to charge, from November onwards.

The 1% outside of Europe makes it NOT FREE.
And therefore not good for travel any more. The Halifax card is now better card.

Yep. 1% is better than most, but Zero, Post office and Clarity are free.

I've never had an offer from Nationwide on their credit card. Given the way everything seems to be changing at NW, I suppose their policy could change in the future.

That's why I said free in the EU. And it is good for travel. It's not the best - Halifax Clarity, Santander Zero and Post Office are better - but it is good compared to the vast majority of cards. If you are travelling to another EU country then it is just as good as the other three for purchases (Halifax is better for cash withdrawals).

The point I was making is that the changes that are occurring in November are to the debit card, nothing is changing with the credit card, which has always charged interest on cash withdrawals.
    Agree with you.
We are keeping the credit card but dumping our flexaccount.
I'm going to use Halifax Clarity for cash withdrawals.

As an additional point, having the free travel insurance could potentially be a big hassle.
If you make a travel insurance claim, you have to declare if you have any other policies.
They will want to split claims between the policies which can cause delay in payments.

    Yes... a very good point.

In any case, bundling insurance is always dodgy - it really is a product people should buy according to their individual situation. You can't make people take proper care buying a policy in this area - but Nationwide can only encourage people to be lazy.
