Money Moral Dilemma: Should I sell her my car?

  • no, definitely not. if her insurance is high (prob more than the extra she was offering you lol) then it is only going to come down when she drives without crashing & earns no-claims.
  • I think that you should avoid selling her the car unless she is willing to get her lisence. To take the sting out of it volunteer to let her practise for her test with you supervising...
but just be as honest as you can and rememebr that if neighbourly relations disintergrate - it was her fault for informing you of her unsavoury plans for your car. As long as you continue to be as social as you can, no real harm done.

also, she can buy a car from someone else if she really wants, where the onus isn't on you! You can't stop her from buying a car and driving it illegally, but there is no need for you to be a part of it!

Personally, I would sell, but tell her i do not want her details...
but then if she has told you everything I will not sell at any price as if she were to do a criminal act it would come under JOINT ENTERPRISE as you knew he/she would do a certain act and you accepted it!!!

    take your call!

Why doesn't she have a licence?? has she just not replaced the card bit when her photo expired or is she banned? AFAIK you can own a car without a driving licence just not drive it.

TBH I have bought a few cars and never been asked if I have a driving licence.

  • I've bought and sold many cars privately over the years, and I've never asked for, or have been asked for, licence or insurance. This has caused me no problems, just make sure that the car is properly registered when you sell it. However, the situation you describe suggests a completely irresponsible person, the type, and I speak with knowledge of them, to not care about anybody else on the road or pavement. These are the people you hear about in the news who run people down and don't stop. These are the people who cause pain, misery and financial hardship for families all over the country. If you sell to her with this knowledge, I don't believe you have legally done any wrong (no guarantee) but you will have made a profit to the detriment of your conscience. This is not a dilemma to me. DON'T SELL. You don't need to be rude, say you've changed your mind about selling at all, hold off for a while then try again. You know this or you wouldn't have asked. Personally, if she hit me, and I found out you sold to her with the knowledge of lack of insurance etc, I would do my best to find something to sue you for. Do the right thing.

No, don't do it as, if something 'bad' did happen, you would never live with the guilt.
  • The answer is simple just don't sell her the car it's as simple of that ... Just think !!! What if theres an accident ..... What if someone is killed ..... Do you really want to be saying to yourself IF Only I hadn't sold her the car ....

No don't sell her the car. for all the above reasons

Just use the excuse that you don't want to sell to someone you know in case somthing goes wrong with it.

I would sell it to her. She is an adult and can make her own decisions.
It is not my responsibility to carry out any checks on a buyer.
Anybody can have an accident and it does not necessarily mean the original owner of the vehicle or the car showroom should feel any responsibility.

In business I often hear the expression "I did not hear that" or "I do not want to know" but yet the deal still goes through.

    Sell her the car.
You are not to know what she intends to do with it, and it really is non of your business.
Just make sure it is purchased as seen:beer:
