From tomorrow Lidl will be selling loads of winter type car products includinng a pair of windscreen wipers for £1.99.
Problem with their advertised offers is you never know whether the item will be in stock,
even when the offer has just started.

    Stocking seems unpredicatable.

  • Quality of these Lidl blades isn't great but what would one expect for £1.99. Personally I prefer the Bosch they work silently and last much longer. Already I'm noticing streaking and they've only been on, what, 3 weeks?

Problem with only changing the rubber is that the springs of the wiper loose strength over time giving a poor contact with the screen. Might as well invest in the full replacements.

Sorry but I don't agree, I don't know what blades you are reffering to but mine front and rear have no springs in them. They have moving arms which swing on pivots and the blade naturally accomodates itself to the curvature of the windscreen. not a spring in sight.

    To Myosin the OP

The reason I bumped this up today is I have just visited Makro and I saw they have some posh wiper blades the sort with a 5 pointed star cross section. and they are sold as 2 blades onl which you cut to fit your old wipers. They cost £5.28 inc VAT

If anyone likes I'll note down the manufacturer next time I visit and we should be able to find more information/stockists.

The only reservation I have about them is that the ridgidity is provided by what looks like a plastic bar along the top, and they give instructions to cut with scissors, wire cutters etc......I don't know how clean the cut is going to be through the plastic ridge, but they have been presumably tried and tested so who knows.

Don't get those with the five pointed cross section.
I had some a few years back -they are rubbish.

And more importantly at this time of year they hold water and really freeze solid to your windscreen in frost.

The idea that replacing windscreen rubbers could lead to the end of the world is ludicrous !!
-I think you've all lost your marbles !!

The problem with the modern world is the throw away economy.
If you know how to repair things & have the right part, they can be repaired perfectly ok.

Many things are thrown away for the sake of an absolutlely tiny repair.

People have lost contact with the items they consume/use & don't know how to make do.
People in poorer countries don't have this problem

Damn right Peter. I just purchased two OEM refills from BMW for £13. The Bosch blades from Halfords were £19

    Hopefully, OP is already sorted.

I find Halfords very expensive for wiper blades. They have relieved me of £26 in the past for a pair of blades, my local motor factor sells them for £12. Well worth shopping around.

i find halfrauds expensive for anything your much better off finding a local motor parts place, service parts will generally be cheaper and the internet is cheaper again.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
