This is the st*p**st post in this thread. Even if it would be possible to save the videos DRM free, you're saying that the OP should send files several hundred MB in size by email?
  • Something like UKnova would be a good option. It's widely used by people who live abroad to watch UK TV.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends

I have VPN set up on my (Draytek) router and that works well. You should look to see if your home router has the option to set up VPN.

I also have a Slingbox Solo which is excellent as long as you don't mind your daughter watching the same programs as you! Then there is TvTorrents.com and equivalents which would allow her to download the TV programs to watch.

  • The Slingbox has a built-in freeview tuner, so you don't need to have it hooked up to any external devices to use. This is assuming you get a decent freeview signal that is and terrestrial TV is all she needs.

Great device the slingbox. I have one from years ago and still use it when I'm holidaying abroad, great for catching up with UK tv when you're stuck in a hotel. Quality will vary, but still very watch-able.
  • Why is there even talk of VPN?

Essentially what you are trying to do is connect from a foreign country but appear to be connecting from the UK?

Which is what a proxy would do.

Is it catch up tv you want to do ie Iplayer 4OD etc?
  • I have used a slingbox and Lamina. Both work very well from the USA.

Hmm.... I wonder if TvCatchup.com has the same regional restrictions as BBC iPlayer, etc? No harm in trying I guess. Just an idea. :)

Another vote for UKNova although it can be hard to get an account as it's so popular.

I've got a few friends abroad who use this to catch up on UK programs. It's a torrent site where you can get UK tv and radio programs (with the music removed), but it is unique in that it aims to stay legal by not hosting anything that is covered by copyright or available to buy.

I have tried using tvproxy.co.uk here in Central Asia, I found that i need to insert the uae.pac setting in to the LAN auto config script of I/Ex and then activate Hotshield VPN to get it to show satisfactorily, then run it through firefox, when I say satisfactorily I really mean run at all.....the BBC would work on and off, most frustrating, and the ITV channels would show the adverts and then not play the prog.
The 'best' speed I could get was 300kbps, the ideal speed for the telly is 500kbps
