Wood Burning Stove - Help Please

I just need a quick question answered and hopefully someone will put me right..
My house was built in 1886 and i have fireplaces in all rooms although i do not use the bedroom fireplaces.
The lounge has a nice open fire which is luvly in the winter months.
In my dining room i'm aiming to put a woodburner in there instead of the normal open fire, i figure it's just easier and less messy and it'll heat the kitchen up a bit too..
The chimney has been regulary swept so no problem there...
After looking at many stoves for sizes etc when i come to install the thing is there a minimum gap that i should leave all around it - ie: from the rear of the stove to the bricks or can it just go with an even gap all around so the thing looks pleasing to the eye?
Regards...

Hi there,
It sounds like you need to download document Part J as there are a lot more regulations involved than just the clearance between the stove and the walls of the fireplace. Usually it's 6" either side and 12" above but some stoves can specify more.0 -
Are you stocked up with CO alarms CR?

Nah not yet.....should get on and order some.....you found any cheap suppliers to the trade?....not even looked into it yet.....i know Specflue's prices are pretty steep......need to get in touch with them to see if there are any discounts.
There's outfits on ebay selling the Angel Fire units for £7.99 or so.0 -
Specflue works out about £15 each I think (box of 10). We are getting the audible ones, can just imagine some customers ringing up every time the digital ones went up by .5 or something
so best stick with the old fashioned sound alarm we reckon. 0 -
Yeah....that was my thought also......i had a customer who called me because her CO alarm was going off after we'd installed a stove for her.........she didn't have an alarm before the stove was fitted............smoke bombed the stove and it all went up no problem...not a wisp into the room......turned out the gas boiler wasn't flue'd correctly.....it had been up and running for 8 years or so:-)0

The other point is, the paint curing on the stove can probably set it off
