Hi
Is anyone a 'My Secret Kitchen' Partyplan Consultant on this forum? I have been looking into become a consultant, have checked out their website but would like some feedback from a consultant point of view.

Not the cheapest opportunity to start up.

£99 or £199 .Then your probaly need a basic food hygiene certificate and public liabilty insurance.

    Ask yourself

    (1) Would you buy the products yourself?
    (2) Are you satisfied with the integrity and stability of the company and the marketing plan?
    (3) Are you willing to put in a significant amount of consistent effort?

If so and you can afford it go for it.

Just from looking at their website I think you'd have to ask yourself if you are in the right area or know the right people to host parties for their sort of products. At one end of the scale the average person probably isn't going to be interested in vanilla egg nog truffle pots and black forest cheese ball mix, especially at those prices. At the other end the real foodies aren't going to buy bread mixes and brownie mixes when those sort of things can be made fresh and will work out cheaper than the mixes.

I'd also be skeptical about the amount of repeat business - someone might buy the fig pudding pickle to try it but will they regularly be placing repeat orders? I bet they get a lot of sales from new consultants then it rapidly tapers off. Personally I think the cookware companies appeal more because they can be sold to a wider range of people. As I say though I'm only going by their website, I haven't seen their sales figures.

Another thing you could do if you have any doubt is to ask Phil/Clare how many active consultants they have.Given they have been going since 2007 you would expect them to have a reasonable amount by now if the concept is a successful one.
  • Thank you for all your replies. :)
The 'niggles' I had were the answers you gave, so it was good to see it written down.

I am looking for income to supplement and complement my therapy business. I have in the past sold products I have made, jewellery, cards, etc. I have also sold bought in items aromatherapy, crystals, new age and ethnic products, through school fairs, ladies evenings, businesses and house parties, so have quite a bit of experience demonstrating and selling.

I think I might try to source and sell independently. Ideally would like to sell items connected with well-being and lifestyle so if anyone has any ideas would love to hear them.

  • I love cooking and entertaining and meeting new people so that is why I was originally drawn to My Secret Kitchen. I think I loved the concept rather than the products on offer.

I am sorry I missed Clare's post as I would have been interested to read what she had to say, although I realise why it was removed.

    Thanks everyone for your comments.:)

In that case have a look at Pampered Chef as well. During the demo you get the guests to help you prepare a few dishes using the cookware then people can try them at the end. Much more fun than a standard show and tell format.
  • Thanks Paulwf. :)

I think I will source my own products again, then I can work independently. I have been in touch with a company this morning and they are going to send me some samples and brochures.
