I've just found out that virgin are using their own in house credit checking serivce & so are NOT sharing information good or bad with equifax or experian (at the moment) which if like me you are trying to rebuild credit rating after bankruptcy is not good.. HELP !!!!!!!! Without virgin going back to equifax or experian is there anything i can do for the next 20 mths till my contract runs out ???
My advice for anybody looking to fix their credit up with a mobile phone contract would be start off with a sim only with orange, voda or 02 after a year of paying on time the network SHOULD be happy to let you have a normal contract......

I don't believe there's any rule that compels them to share the data with the other agency's.0

That's right, data sharing is voluntary in the UK (apart from the doorstep lenders that is). There are plenty of other ways to collect credit repayment data though eg bank overdrafts, domestic energy (through British Gas anyway), credit cards, store cards etc.

Has this changed? I know its been a good few years (2/3) when I used to have the Pay by Direct Debit and SIM Only plans with them they used to record these with the credit reference agencies?
Had three listed on my report at one point!David

At that point Virgin used agency's like Experian to do their checks, so the check and the result were logged.
These days they do them in house, so there's no involvement with any of the agency's so no trail is left on them.0 -
So does that mean you could have 5 defaults, lots of missed payments and Virgin would not know?David

Hum, good point. No idea.
By the same token, you could default on a Virgin acc and it wouldn't show anywhere else ?
Makes the whole system a little pointless, I have to look into this. . .0 -
Just what I think to be honest - But I guess it's up to them how they do it. Maybe they have lots of customers who just pay up on time without problems? I guess they would just shift off any bad debt to a debt recovery company like all the rest.David
