giving up work

mrskpickles wrote: »Hi there
I currently work part time, have two children 2 years and a six month old.
I get child tax credits, and child benefit. I am thinking of giving up work all together, and just doing the odd agency shift as and when, (i am a nurse). Mainly because nursery now costs £70 less than i actually earn, which seems ridiculous!
would my tax credits stop, or would I still get them because I work agency, although I would not work the same amount of hours each week. can anyone help?
thank you
To go back t the original poster/question:
Firstly Mrs Pickles - does the father of your children live with/support your children?
I know nothing of child tax credits  - they weren't available when my children were small - but I presume that they are similar to child tax allowances (allowances made against tax bill) which were allowed against salary - therefore if you don't have a salary, they would not be applicable - but I could well be way out on this assumption :rotfl:
Could you arrange to be on Bank during times that you OH would be available to do the parenting? Might that be a good compromise.
It's not easy with a 2 year old plus a baby and working!0 -
