can you recommend me a car for under 4500 pounds?

Ive got 4500 to spend on a 2nd hand car but im really confused as to what to buy, so far every car ive seen/liked has had a rubbish review on whatcar.

I will do approx 10 thousand miles a year and need to have room for 5 people. The car will do mostly country roads with occasional motorway journeys and will need to be reliable. Petrol or diesel I dont mind

So far ive looked at a
renault megane and a renault laguna, both have been nice cars but the reviews are rubbish.

I would preferably prefer a newer car (2004 onwards) with fairly low mileage as I wont be able to afford a car for a good few years after this,

Any suggestions please?

    Agree totally here.

Infact any Ford made since about 2000 seems to be stronger than most things. Modern Fords are exeptionally well put together and nice to drive. Focuses are about as trouble free as they come, whatever the flavour.

  • Renaults are cheap used for a reason.

Mondeo, Octavia, Superb, Passat, Avensis, Magentis, Sonata, Vectra, Signum, Accord, Mazda 6 petrol only, Lancer in no particular order.

A few to be going on with and i've suggested the larger models for seating 5 adults in comparative comfort, Signums back seat being adjustable might give it an edge for room.

MK3 Ford Mondeo - was Top Gear car of the Year. I bought a 04 plate TDCi 130 with 90,000 on the clock. 54,000 miles later and the only thing that's needed to be done are the rear subframe bushes (£150 - fitted poly-urethane bushes so they'll outlive the car) and a replacement alternator (£200 fitted - genuine new Ford one supplied and fitted at main dealers). Other than that and the customary EGR valve cleanout I've not even had to top up the oil. It just did a trip to France where it did 1400 miles in a week with 2 adults, one child and a boot full of luggage and returned 57MPG. Never missed a beat. All the toys work and there's virtually no sign of wear - certainly the only thing that gives away the high miles is the stonechipped bumper.
  • I have a Mk3 Mondingo and its fine. Nowt special to drive, but everything works on it. I did the DMF/clutch and starter 30,000 miles ago.

Lovely car (I own one) but I'd reckon it would probably be the most expensive car listed on this thread so far.

Signum is a nice drive, we have the 1.9cdti. seating 5 would be a push i think and the middle rear seat is a bench more than a seat

Pretty pointless asking on here to be honest as you only get the extreme view. That's no offence to anyone, ;)

The only people that reply are those that are very pleased or very displeased with a car they've had, seem to leave out the average reliable group of cars that fill most of the market place.

People decry both VX and Renault, (infact if you read enough on here almost all will be criticied at some point or other), I've never had problems with either and since you mentioned the Megane, I've had a 55 plate diesel estate for 4 years now without issue.;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
