Wow and well done on a massive gardening effort Ani, you really need to promote yourself from the 'dunce' group. :D Apprentice maybe? I wish we could all have the guided tour, I would love to see it all (even if I get to catch scs).

I hope the doctor can do something soon for your eye. I'm relieved you are getting it looked at straight away. As you say, eyes are precious.

Looking at your list of plants, some of those will be annuals so there's no point doing winter storage, though of those, some may well seed themselves like the marigolds.

The lavender and irises will survive all but a really tough winter, and probably even that (mine have come merrily through -15C).

The veg will only last for this year but you may need to look into storage like a sandbox.

Geraniums and asters - depends on the type. Asters can be annuals or perennials. Geraniums, you have to get technical and distinguish between true geraniums ('cranesbill') and pelargoniums, which tend to be the sort of thing that people grow in window boxes in France. Pelargoniums need to come indoors overwinter, (which is why I never have space on my windowsills) but geraniums go underground till spring.

Have you thought of making cream cheese from supermarket milk. It doesn't need equipment and will keep in the fridge for 3/4 weeks. You just need whole milk and a small carton of live yoghourt. Mix the two together and keep slightly warm until its gone thick and sour. Strain through a thin cloth to drain off the whey and what's left is the basic cheese. You can add salt, pepper, herbs, onion anything you like.

One collective reply to all above posts. I am no longer a chef, and i am no longer a gardener. I am now in training to become a motor mechanic, my new found vocation.  Is there any end to my talents? :rotfl:

Yup, a largely do it yourself job, it is. I have cancelled all things insurance related, ( except the insurance,) and have spent most of the day on tinternet. My wm is now discontinued, ( i know that all ready,) i can only get a new wm via the dealer, but from belgium, cost £200, ( and the rest,) and it is not even the right wm, as i'm now a fount of information with regard to electronics, too. I have finally come up with a solution and have managed to find a scrapped wm, which doesn't matter too much, ( i hope the electrics still work,) as i only need the innards and the glass, so if a garage can fix the electrics, if i don't manage to do them myself, i will manage the rest, respray etc :rotfl: £10 for wm and £10 for p & p, and although i'm wary about losing the £20, i've managed to check the seller out on fbay, and they have an excellent reputation. Good place to buy a clutch? Fingers crossed, it arrives tomorrow.

Oh and i got some antibiotics for my eye, and had an interesting conversation re application. And now another day has passed and i am knackered. :o

    NEXXXXT PLEASE..........................

I am definitely having a day in bed tomorrow zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Sounds like a wonderfully productive day. Its amazing what you can achieve if you put your mind to it. Now there's something to tell the jc if they want you to look for work

Sounds like a busy old day ani. Usual showers and not much sun here today, though it seems to be peeking out a bit now.

re: garden shed - have you thought about Freecycle / Freegle? It might take a bit of hunting down but you might get lucky although I go with miggy's outlook - they tough it out in the winter on their own - we have lavender (a little bit of under control ivy) and a massive rosemary bush and they've all come through the tough winters we've had recently.

My toms made it through the night slug free, I've moved them from where they were (by the shed) thinking under the shed is ideal for the slimey critters and they are now residing by the concrete path on some gravel - hopefully not so appealing.

I hadn't thought of freecycle for a shed, although i've looked for a wardrobe, mattress, bicycle, cooker, freezer, and, and :)

Its odd, when people say how far i've come and what i've achieved, as i don 't feel as if i've achieved anything.

I'm not happy with having to execute a " botch " job on my car, but i've no alternative. Maybe it would make a difference if i could get classic car insurance? It's all in abeyance anyway, since i won't be able to afford next years insurance. The charity has paid for it, these last two years, but i'm now having my cooker, this year. I have to count myself extremely fortunate they are still supporting me. They are under no obligation, whatsoever, especially since they too have advised me not to return to my job.

Which brings me back to the here and now, and the fact i will have to cancel my gym appointment tomorrow, as it is so difficult to get there without a car. :o I also had to ask for a lift yesterday, and it brings you back to the real world and how people honestly are so wrapped up in their own lives, they look down their nose at you and are unwilling to change their life, even minutely, to help someone else. Such is the snotty music world. This is why i never like to be in the position of asking for help.

I will wait with bated breath, today, to see if my wm arrives, and what condition it is in. Bought unseen, huh. I don't like to administer a less than perfect job, but needs must and all that. After all, it's only a b*y wm.

I also had another call back re the application. This will have to be put on hold for now, on a minor technicality no one had thought about. Maybe it's just as well, and for the best, at the moment. There are still many judgemental people out there. Of course, they don't know anything about me. I mean, they don't really know me as a person, but still.

I have lots of other " things " to sort today. Dla's, blah blah blah. I can't bothered. I honestly can't be bothered. Urgh, look at the weather. One of those stay in bed days?

Definitely a stay in bed day - in fact I'm off to sleep as soon as possible.

I am sure ani will be glad of a new wm even if it isn't done by the garage... did you get the boot to shut properly in the end?

I keep reading 'wm' as 'washing machine'. Took me a while to work it out. :D
