Stupid mistake

It's exactly what Oscar52 says, if the account is over 3 months old you will not get the 0% back, you may get another promotional rate but not the 0%.
The late payment will not get updated with the CRA's as long as a payment reaches the account within 5 days of the due date.
If I was you I would see if your bank do faster payments and if they do transfer the minimum payment again to MBNA, you will need to do this by monday 4pm at the latest.0 -
I had to set up a direct debit cos I was such a goon and forgot once, I didn't dare do it again! That might be an idea for future?

Such a good idea - on my CCs I didn't used to have DDs set up. I got stung once or twice and it was such an annoyance and worry that now I have DDs set up (but only 1 CC) for everything like that.
Puts my mind at rest and one less job to do.

Reckon that's the way you should go and you'll probably get away with it!
SORRY, this is wrong. I just double-checked. I pay Barclaycard on their website - goes through the same day. MBNA never makes it same day (usually 2-4 days depending on weekends).0 -

I have done a faster payment with my bank so hopefully that will go through tomorrow, and fingers crossed everything will be alright.
Many Thanks to everyone for their advice. :beer:0 -
I hope this all works out for you, 1stdayofmylife. You've noticed the mistake and done everything you can to sort it out. I found myself in a terrible panic yesterday, as I checked my online bank statement and saw that the latest payment for my Virgin MBNA card - due yesterday - hadn't been taken. Silly of me not to set up the direct debit, I now realise, but I've been freelance for years and I've always preferred being able to control when money goes out, having little or no control over when it comes in. I always pay both my cards at the same time, and the other one was paid, so I'm guessing that I was distracted by my wife or my daughter in the midst of paying (Working at home means I often get a shout of 'Can you help with...' up the stairs or a 2-year-old coming into my room and deciding it would be enormous fun to do some typing for Daddy). I was sure I'd done it. Obviously, I paid again, paying the minimum amount 3 times from different accounts in the forlorn hope that one would make it through in time, and I also finally set up the direct debit. Reading around here, it seemed clear that I'd lost my 0% BT rate permanently, as I've had the card for 4 months. However, I rang up the 0800 783 1116 line this morning, spoke to a very helpful chap, explained my predicament and he reinstated the 0% rate. I can take the £12 late payment fee as a slap on the wrist, and I was told that there was a possibility that I might not get hit for interest as it was all dealt with so quickly. Obviously, I'd rather not pay the interest, but if it happens, I suppose that's the price of my lesson. Oscar52 and Twist-and-shout - If company policy is not to reinstate the 0% now, how has it happened for me (and a couple of others here that I've read about)?
Having read an awful lot on the subject in the last 24 hours, I am amazed by some of the people moaning about credit card providers and their 'sharp practices'. In most cases, the moaner cocked up and refuses to take responsibility for their mistake. My own experience with MBNA has been first class, so far.0 -
I work for MBNA and oscar52 did work for MBNA.
Representives are not meant to re-instate a promotion if the account is over 3 months old, if you have had a promotion back after this time you have been lucky and got someone who is not doing there job properly. I wouldn't complain about it just be happy that you have it back. Most people however will not get the 0% back.0 -
I don't follow your logic here.Silly of me not to set up the direct debit, I now realise, but I've been freelance for years and I've always preferred being able to control when money goes out, having little or no control over when it comes in.
The date the direct debit is claimed is the absolute latest date you can pay without being late. You either have the money or you don't. If you have it, then simply earmark it for the DD and don't spend it before then!0 -

That's because logic wasn't involved
I've managed to get almost to 40 without grasping the difference between a direct debit and a standing order until yesterday.twist-and-shout wrote: »Representives are not meant to re-instate a promotion if the account is over 3 months old, if you have had a promotion back after this time you have been lucky and got someone who is not doing there job properly. Did I sound like I was complaining? I hope not. I thought phrases like "spoke to a very helpful chap" and "My own experience with MBNA has been first class, so far" made it clear I was saying positive things about the way the whole business was handled. I was also very pleasantly surprised when I was told that my promotional rate was being reinstated. As for the representative not doing their job properly, would someone have put their livelihood at risk to help out a numpty who hadn't had the wit to organise a direct debit? I don't doubt that the official policy is not to reinstate the 0% after 3 months has passed, but the loyalty/retentions team evidently have some leeway/discretion in this regard. Either that or they're risking their jobs, which doesn't sound very likely to me.0 -

Theres not meant to be any discretion - its a bank wide policy. The reason it was set at three months was to allow people to get used to, if you like, a new account - such as when the Statement would be due and how long you had to pay. The three months then allows time to set up DD/standing order etc. They will also allow for exceptional circumstances - which is not really defined, but wouldnt include "my flight was delayed and I was stuck in Timbuktu" - you get the idea!!
I am aware some reinstate after this time, but they shouldnt - dont know if it would out their job at risk, but would definately get them a wrist slapped. No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.
Proud to be a Friend of Niddy.
no idea what my nerdnumber is - i am now officially nerd 229, no idea on my debt free date0 -
Thanks for that, Oscar. I hope the person I spoke to doesn't get into any trouble. The whole experience left me with a very favourable impression of the way MBNA handles its customers.0
