I suppose there is the possibility that he doesn't know what he is doing, but maybe that is being too optomistic.
If you have only just listed the item presumably there would be time to email him (to point out his mistake??).
Ormaybe he just wants to pay lots of money for your item ;-)0 -

If your item has a reserve price that has not been met, the bidder may well just be trying to find that reserve by increasing his bid a little at a time.
It's also a tactic that can be used to disuade (sp?) others from bidding on an item. Ebay will only place the minumum bid needed to win the item for you. So, if the item has no reserve, I would expect the winning bid not to have increased since their first bid (I think I'm right here, aren't I). A new potential buyer, knowing this, will be able to see that the buyer currently holding the highest bid is prepared to bid much higher than the current winning bid that they already hold (as demonstrated by the number of his bids above the current winning bid), so the new potential bidder isn't encouraged to place a bid.
The danger with this tactic as a buyer is that you lay yourself open to shill bidding which can be done on the item in the sound knowledge that the seller is not going to win their own item.0 -

One other thought is that bidding through R Points give you 3 points (ie pence) per bid. So if a bidder wants an item, or even only half wants an item, rather than bid his maximum once once and earn 3p, he can bid 11 times to reach his max and earn 33p.
Just a thought, no idea whether it is relevant in this case or not.

sorry i thought it would be seen as advertising if i put the item no on the forum. 6366738707
his 11 bids have now been outbid and the item (which started @ .99p) is now £1.40. and looking at the bids; now i can see them, he was going up in increments of 1p (why?)
oh well.Where the !!!! has the Shrug gone!

It's pointless, especially when it is obvious that he will not win the item at under £1.40, but if that is what he/she wants to bid then they are perfectly within their rights I guess. I wouldn't worry about it, as an item can often get 30-40 bids from just a few different people in a bidding war.The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing:)0

I woudn't worry about it.....he's probably just going for the rpoints like soo said!0

Yes, but . . . it's an awful lot of hard work for a few pence. He'd have to leave Ebay and revisit it via the Rpoints link each time he bid in order to get his 3p/bid!
'He' really does need to get out more!0 -
Ive had that happen to me a few times too. I thought 'wierd' but then I thought well maybe if somebody else bid higher it was one of those ebay things where you can leave an automatic higher bid and it was just filling in all the inbetween ones by default.
Never thought about the RPoints thing. Thats much more likely.:D0 -
I though 10p was the minimum bid increment not 1p?0
