Hope they're of some use
Thanks so much for thinking of me. Perfect, perfect jobs, but unfortunately too far for me
I really do appreciate you thinking of me though, and the all the top bananas website is not one I had heard of before so I will add that to my list of sites to check daily.Comstock wrote:Hi, just one thing no one else seems to have mentioned.
Are you keeping in touch with the firm you worked for for the last 5 summers? They obviously like your work, so why not give them a bell, and then follow it up with an email every couple of months or so.
They know of me very well, I babysit for the manager every now and again. They only require staff over the Summer period but I am pretty sure if they had vacancies at any other time they would be in touch.
I have applied for sooooo many jobs over the last few days, after pretty much nothing in December.
Had my census interview yesterday, pretty unlikely I will get that. The man doing the interview had a really strong foreign accent and I kept having to ask him to repeat questions. It's really annoying because I was completely prepared having googled the questions they would ask!
Back to the job centre tomorrow after the christmas break, and I think I will be due one of those 12 week things... fantastic!0 -
Very much in the same scenario as you...only I am not eligible to receive benefits so have avoided the JC.
All we can do is throw out the applications and hope that eventually something sticks. Only advice I can really give as my efforts have got me precisely nowhere so far.0 -
I have had such an awful day today, feeling so fed up so it's really nice to hear I'm not alone in this! I'm getting up at 7am everyday and job hunting constantly until at least 7pm at night. I'm applying for all I can but there really isn't even much to apply for. I applied for about 30 jobs last week and I haven't heard a thing back from any of them, makes you wonder why you bother wasting your time.
Hi Lexilex,
I haven't read all of the thread, but to chuck in my two pence, this doesn't sound like the best approach. I know how horrible it is to hunt for jobs day in, day out (I've been doing it for 9 weeks solid now), but giving over all your time to the hunt isn't helpful, you just go round in circles and at the end of the day apply for things you'd have skipped over in the morning because they're not the job you want. Websites add things throughout the day, so maybe limit yourself to a check in the morning and then another in the afternoon. Many of the sites allow you to save searches, so that might help to streamline the process. I know from bitter experience that a day spent on the laptop hunting for work is dull and unfulfilling and leaves you feeling you've got nowhere. If you can break it up with a bit of a walk or something, do that. Fresh air makes quite a difference!
The other thing I'd suggest is talking to recruitment agencies; it does depend on the place you're in (my home town was awful, but having moved to Leeds, the agencies can't do enough to get you something) but they can be very useful as some companies will only recruit via agency so you can get some introductions you wouldn't find on your own.
I hope you find something soon.0 -
I'm feeling kinda foolish now I've noticed the dates on the above. Whoops! Still, it stands and I hope you've found a job by now!
