Thinking of applying for a job in McDonalds
Comments

Long time since I worked there, but it's a good enough company to work for. You'll be on your feet all the time so will feel like you've earned your money!
As you're looking for specific hours, McDonalds could really suit you. If things are still the same from when I was there, you put down what hours you can work and they shift you accordingly. Beware though that some weeks you may not get as much work as you'd like as they'll have high numbers of staff that they are trying to fit in.
The only drawback I would say is that some of the staff there (especially management) can be a little institutionalised. i.e they think that because they get to wear a different colour uniform to others that it somehow gives them the right to talk down to people. I had a couple of managers like this when I worked there and to be honest, found it incredibly sad (in a laughable way). But if you can keep a straight face through that, the job will be fine.
The quote is absolutely true.
I'm probably showing my age now. But I remember watching 'coming to america' with Eddie Murphy and that was hilarious. The scenes in it demonstrate the fast food market.
Let's just say, you will be working for years on end and move up from the washing the lettuce to the fries.
Anyway, it is a very good company.
To continue from the above quote, don't you think nearly every company is like that? Instead of the uniform, the title some dictates the idiot in the company.
Wise words, - 'You always get one, in the company!' - you know who you are! But sometimes, you don't.

Also, thank you to people who help me out.0 -
Thanks for all the replies, my husband isnt keen on me working there but if needs must then I will and it sounds like I will be able to do both jobs at the same time. I've also been looking into doing babysitting by advertising on Gumtree and Netmums, it wont be regular work though.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

tbh - I think that there are better catering/hospitality jobs. I've had a few in my time and McDonalds wouldn't be my first choice. Waitressing is often good as it can be flexible shiftwise and you get to keep the tips (if you pick the right employer!). Bar work is also okay if you have your own transport - I'd prefer it to frying chips and most customers treat you like a human. Plus since the smoking ban, it's a more pleasant job to have.
Have you looked about to see what else is on offer?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
No, I havent looked at anything else yet, I'm quite shy and the thought of bar work fills me with dread! Strange because Ive worked in retail before and in customer service admin roles.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

All you have to do is smile, serve, take money and collect glasses. I worked in a cocktail bar for a while (not a fancy one) and really enjoyed it. The thing about bars is that most people are there to enjoy themselves so the atmosphere can be quite chilled."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."

With macdonalds though if you really want a good career they can supply you with one right up through the whole chain if you want it bad enough. Ive got some friends who started there whilst at uni and now they manage a store!"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

I did a few years at Mcdonalds, many years ago. It was hard work, but its one that you could probably get hours to suit in.
I didn't have much say in my hours; I started part-time, and as soon as I turned 18 I was doing late night shifts, etc. As a mum you will probably get what hours you want.
Its also a job, you can advance in, if you so desire. There were a few people who started when I did who became management some years later.
I left and got a different office based job, because I was sick of having to do late night shifts, etc, and it was only supposed to be a temporary measure while I decided what I wanted to do.
I will be considering it, when my DS starts nursery/school full time though.0 -
It really depends on the management at the particular restaurant. Most of them are franchises and have their own rules, some are nice, some are bad, luck of the draw I think! Good luck!0

Just be sure not to eat any of the food, you'll be fine.0
