Thinking of applying for a job in McDonalds

There are around 10 jobs advertised on the McDonalds website for the McD's closest to where I live. I was made redundant from my job as a playworker in July and am considering applying for one of these jobs.

I'm 41, married and a mother of children aged 12 and 10. Anyone here work there and tell me what its like? I do have a job that I do on a Monday every week so was hoping to keep this and also work at McD's part time.

The McD's job. Let me put this to rest. Nothing wrong with working for McDonald's as especially they give a lot of money to charity and this gives me a big thumbs up.

What would you expect? Ok. 1st you will go through some type of training.

Just be aware, you can be putting out the trash, cleaning the tables, refilling stuff etc etc. You could be on the counter or the fries etc. You get my point.

What else? You can't take anything away from the company even if they throw away alot of things.

You get on free meal for lunch.

You don't get paid for lunch like most companies.

Anyone like to add to this???????? It's usually really busy! So you will be on your feet alot!

can be noisy, could get parents having a moan at you because the hamburger has the gherkin in when the customer asked for 1 minus a gherkin(an example but you get my drift)

I don't get paid for lunch either!
I would be more than happy to work for McDonalds. I worked for Burger King as a student and really enjoyed it. Never bored, always something to do

McDonalds is okay. They are quite structured in comparison to other employers in the same industry, high standards regarding training, hygiene, recruitment practices etc. They can be quite flexible as employers although that might depend on local managers. It would be busy, but that means the time goes faster. Actual tasks of the job might not be that exciting but if you like working with the public then that side could be rewarding. Also, you can be sure they'll be around for a while!

My daughter worked for them for a year when in 6th form and she enjoyed it. Guess that's a downside, predominantly young workforce and high turnover.

Guess the other downside is that as a former play worker they might give you the kids parties to do.... :rotfl:

on the application form they ask you what your proudest acheivement is - im telling you this as i thought it strange but then ive been no where done, nowt except have my kids! good luck with your application

McDonald is a good company, so I think it will be a good place to work at. I haven't actually tried working on one but I am pretty sure that you will be on your feet almost the whole time of your shift. And there will be plenty of table cleaning, floor mapping, refilling cups and taking out the garbage.

But like you, I will also take this job, without any second thoughts, than not having any job at all.

Long time since I worked there, but it's a good enough company to work for. You'll be on your feet all the time so will feel like you've earned your money!

As you're looking for specific hours, McDonalds could really suit you. If things are still the same from when I was there, you put down what hours you can work and they shift you accordingly. Beware though that some weeks you may not get as much work as you'd like as they'll have high numbers of staff that they are trying to fit in.

The only drawback I would say is that some of the staff there (especially management) can be a little institutionalised. i.e they think that because they get to wear a different colour uniform to others that it somehow gives them the right to talk down to people. I had a couple of managers like this when I worked there and to be honest, found it incredibly sad (in a laughable way). But if you can keep a straight face through that, the job will be fine.

Hi, well i recently started working for my local mcdonalds and so far its going great. What work you will end up doing will depend upon which position you apply for, if you apply for crew member then you will mainly be dealing with the food, handing out orders and working on the drive thru. If you apply for customer care assistant you are basically required to ensure the restaurant is clean at all times, so making sure tables are clean, that bins are emptied and that the toilets are clean and so on. Oh and dealing with any customer complaints/queries.
Most of the staff at my restaurant are students (like me) however there are a number of people who work here who arent and who have families etc. As already mentioned, you dont get paid for your break - which can be upto 45mins depending on how many hours your meant to work, however you do get to have a free meal on your break which is better than nothing. With regards to working around your other job, you will be asked your availability on the application form and at your interview and i have found them to be very flexible. You can state whether you just want to work specific days/times and so on, and more often than not requests for time off are granted. Hope ive been some help to you. Hi, I worked in the one in Eastbourne in 2005 and I was told that if I clocked out even 10 minutes later than my shift ended I would be docked an hours pay. Just thought I should add that as a warning...
