Would be interested to see how noisy these are, as a good alternative to a PVR/HDD/DVD Recorder, and also what inputs the TV Tunercard has. I had a medion before that was very noisy (admittedly bought 3-4 years ago, but my latest dell is much much quieter). The only disadvantage is that is it just XP home rather than XP Media Centre - can this still be used like this with 'just' XP home?

It's a mini-tower with 2 5.25" bays, one floppy and memory/USB/etc on the front and has a large side panel fan feeding the Celeron CPU (speed controlled) as well of course as the PSU fan . Definitely not sitting room material in my opinion. Think you can find far better systems to build a XP Media Center around.

you are wrong here, dell is 90 day, yes but the 90 day is they pick it up and return it to you, the rest of the 12mths you have to pay for it to be sent back. So the Dell still has 12mths warranty where as the medion only has 90 days.

Don't understand how I am wrong there...

When I looked on Dell Website if you take the "Collect & Return 90 Day Service only" it clearly says:

"Your new Dimension system comes with a 90-day Collect and Return (CAR) repair service including parts and labour, together with access to our award winning technical support for the same 90-day period... In 90 days, your service cover expires..." and goes on to offer further options. No mention that I noticed about a year's warranty.

Anyway that's not really important, was only using Dell as a benchmark as a household name selling similar spec'd system units and offering a similarly 90 day limited support option.

I did however take the time to compare on the Dell UK website a very very similar spec'd system (ie CPU/RAM/HD/DVD/CDs/no-Monitor) and it came out as £397 delivered even after "double memory/free-delivery" options - and it had 2x256MB memory not 1x512MB but did have MS Works 8. Graphics: Dell has Intel GMA900 rather than S3 Unichrome Pro. No TV/DVB/FM card and no memory card reader though. So illustrates the potential saving for a general purpose PC at Medion right now.

As mentioned these were clearly made for sale in Aldi DE &/or UK originally - where they WOULD have had a 3 year warranty/support. Still can't have everything.

One MSE moral: If you don't know how to take a PC to bits and replace bits then probably best to consider one with a longer warranty.

"Medionshop only deliver to Mainland United Kingdom with the exception of LCD-TV wall brackets & printer consumable packs, these items only can be delivered to Ireland."

Well guess you can't have anything - for £4.99 inc VAT!

Yes Its probably worth playing around with such stuff if you're only spending around £40 on a card. But not when you're spending three to four times that amount, and when theres better alternatives. Also at the time the stuff you mention wasn't available for such a new card.
Anyway I'm now a proud owner of a fanless 7600gt, its pure bliss!

It may be £40 at Scan at the moment, they weren't that cheap 2 weeks ago, more like £80 odd, but there are still places selling these for around the £100+ mark.

However Scan this weekend have an AGP 6600GT for under £40 which was 3 times that price 18m ago!
Cor Blimey!!!!! That is just an incredible price!!! Anyone with an AGP PC should get one of these ASAP - you'll be able to play the most up-to-date games at least at medium settings with this baby.

Well one finds as one finds. I remember buying one as a present for my folks 18m or so ago - silver surfers, but who enjoy their games - and paying c£120 for the same card - but snapped up one now for myself at £40 - complete bargain (and the de facto baseline for "proper" Windows Vista) - as well as one for my friend as a very early Xmas present to tweak their Medion moneysaving system.

All those who ordered one from the weekend 'Today only' offers please note there seems to have been a bit of a !!!!-up as the card is actually cheaper when it's not 'Today only' i.e. it's £38-76 today only and £37-59 normally.

It's obviously an error, I buy regularly from Scan and Today only's are normally at least 10% cheaper
